The Real Ritchie Valens - La Bamba

The late, great Ritchie Valens. This is his version of the timeless classic, La Bamba. The other versions on Youtube, claiming to be Ritchie Valens are the Los Lobos cover from the movie of the same name starring Ritchie. Disclaimer- I do not own this, I'm merely allowing people to hear his version.

Ritchie Valens - Donna (Original)

Ritchie Valens wrote and recorded "Donna" for his high school sweetheart Donna Ludwig (now Donna Fox). The song was a two-sided hit for Valens with "La Bamba" on the flip side. "Donna" would peak at #2 on the pop charts during December of 1958, and both sides of this 45 rpm were still riding high when Ritchie embarked on the ill-fated Winter Tour early in 1959 that would claim his life along with The Big Bopper and Buddy Holly.

La Bamba Ritchie Valens Baldy Holly Band

At about the age of 10, i watched the film La Bamba and instantly fell in love with Rock N Roll music and the 1950's. It was then that i decided i wanted to sing and play guitar. The raw talent of Ritchie Valens and his cruel untimely death, really endeared me to Rock N Roll's evergreen appeal. As with Buddy Holly, his music seemed so personal, yet so reachable and they've both remained big hereos of mine up until the present day, La Bamba being my all time favourite film. La Bamba is a tune that we frequently get asked to perform and is always a great crowd pleaser. Mal really lets rip on the solo; a true pleasure and an honour to perform. "La Bamba" is a Mexican folk song, originally from the state of Veracruz, best known from a 1958 adaptation by Ritchie Valens, a top 40 hit in the US charts and one of early rock and roll's best-known songs. The traditional "La Bamba" is often played during weddings in Veracruz, where the bride and groom perform the accompanying dance. The "arriba" (literally "up") part of the song suggests the nature of the dance, in which the footwork, called "zapateado", is done faster and faster as the music tempo accelerates. The repeated lyric, "Yo no soy marinero, soy capitán" (lit: "I am not a sailor, I am a captain"), refers to Veracruz's marine locale and perhaps the husband's promise that he will remain faithful to his wife. The traditional song inspired Ritchie Valens' rock and roll version "La Bamba" in 1958. Valens' "La Bamba" infused the ...
