Rinspeed's first underwater Car
Rinspeed will present its new sQuba, the worlds first diving car, at the Geneva Motor Show (March 6-16). The car is not only able to drive on roads autonomously with a push of a button (thus without a driver, passenger or further assistance), but can also transform into an amphibious vehicle which can be submerged in water up to 10 meters (33 feet). An electric motor with powerful torque drives the rear wheels, while the propulsion on the water is ensured by two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow propelling the vehicle under water while diving. When underwater, the driver and passenger are enclosed in the vehicle thanks to light weight body components made of futuristic Carbon Nano Tubes and are supplied with fresh breathing air by the self-contained on-board system.

It's extremely difficult to visualize what is going on with the flow-fields of the weapon blasts during the time of firing. We planned and assembled several different assets including a high speed camera over a few months and then ran a test designed specifically to allow the viewer to observe the gas dynamics in great detail! Needless to say, this was a blast. Well, two blasts if you want to be technical about it (and we usually do). I performed an experiment to see what the differences were between semi-automatic pistols and revolvers. The advantage of shooting under water is that you can see the boundary of the gas flow fields almost perfectly.

The ring is made out of super heavy duty galvanized steel pipe that has been cut and welded into an octagon. Gussets where also welded into the inside corners for re-enforcement. Air is regularly re-freshed with a SCUBA tank. Even though the Bubble Room is a DIY project it has taken years of improvements and some pretty heavy brainstorming sessions with some very bright and qualified people, to get it to where it is today. Not only is it pretty dangerous if you aren't acutely aware of the laundry list of risks involved, but the build in general is very heavy duty and well thought out. For example a bubble that size has a lifting force of approx 5600 pounds! it's one thing when you underestimate a project and it goes wrong in your garage and nobody's lives are involved, it's completely another when the project puts your friend's and family's lives at stake 20 feet underwater. I know it's awesome and I don't blame anybody for wanting one of their very own, but please don't go out and kill yourself attempting to replicate a project with such huge forces and such high risk. If you feel the need for your own Bubble Room bad enough (why wouldn't you?) my brother and I can be commissioned to install a patented private model complete with fresh air pump, backup generator, detachable stainless steel ring, and a heavy duty, crystal-clear, collapsible, vinyl dome. To many anglers worldwide, catching a halibut is considered being the ultimate catch. To make this dream come true more and more anglers visit the northern part of Norway to go sea fishing. Earlier this year Danish TV host Mads Hussing was fishing with sports fishing journalists and experts Jakob Lindberg and Peter Kirkby from kineticfishing.com. They were fishing and shooting footage for a series of fishing shows -- "Fiskemagasinet" or in English "The Fishing Magazine" -- to be shown on the Danish TV channel DK4 later this year. The fishing took place at two different locations -- the Nordic Sea Angling camp at Ringvassøya near Tromsø and Artic Lyngen Sjøcamp at Lyngsfjorden a three hours' drive east of Tromsø. During six days of fishing, thirteen halibuts were caught. The two biggest were caught during the last day of fishing in Lyngsfjord. They measured 134 cm and 150 cm in length and the weight of these fishes was estimated to respectively 35-40 kilos and 50 kilos or more. The biggest one was caught by the TV host. Big halibut -- or "storkveite" as they call them in Norway -- are off course impressive, but to the small film crew, the most sensational capture was done when filming under-water. Police underwater video inside stricken Costa Concordia
Italian officials say divers have pulled out a woman's body from the capsized Costa Concordia, raising to 13 the number of dead in the Jan. 13 accident off the Tuscan island of Giglio. Italian police released underwater video footage of their efforts to find bodies on the stricken Costa Concordia vessel. Coast Guard divers have been concentrating on parts of the ship where survivors have said many passengers were awaiting evacuation the night of January 13 after the Concordia's hull was gashed by a reef as the cruise liner came too close to the island. American artist Kim Brandell is building the world's largest underwater city off the coast of florida. It is Atlantis with a novel twist - as futuristic design meets ancient Rome, complete with artwork and statues from a multitude of eras. Plans are to make the underwater city, dubbed Neptune, a top class dive site, an underwater cemetery and a new habitat for fish. If the project succeeds, both the ecosystem and the local economy may profit. This is art with an ecological and commercial angle.

Long-time viewers of the show know that Elena's parents died after getting into a car accident where their vehicle flew off the Wickery Bridge into the water. The only reason that Elena actually survived (which we much later learned) was because Stefan dove in to save her. Now the the Wickery Bridge has been restored, and the angsty love triangle between Damon, Elena and Stefan is heating up, we can look forward to an upcoming flashback episode that shows the fateful night of Elena's near-death experience. Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan Salvatorre, revealed to MTV that he's going to be getting SCUBA certified and they he knows he'll be going under water for some scenes because the show's had him in diving lessons already. Nina, who is already scuba certified, also stated that it's really cool to finally be able to use her underwater skills at work. According to the actress though, they haven't shot any of the scenes, but when they do, you might want to send some good thoughts Paul Wesley's way, because according to both Nina and him, he's a bit scared of the water. It is amazingly beautiful because of its deep green colour and the surrounding alpine scenery. The lake itself dries up in autumn but fills up with melting water. The water itself of the lake is extremely pure, like glass. The colour is a result of light refraction. "The night before there seemed to be heavy rain and too much of the pollen were flushed in the water and were floating. So the visibility could be much better, i´ve missed the „crystal clear water. You have to know the Green Lake is famous for its clear water. The good thing for this day was the water level with 9,40m. Spring flowers, plants, benches, hiking trails were below the surface. And i have found out when its the best time during the two to three months "flood" to get in the water - i was to early in this season. Altough the water temperature was between 5 and 6 degrees Celcius i did two dives (85 and 96 minutes long) My face was well frozen, i can hardly speak afterwards.
