Nobuo Uematsu 50th Anniversary Tribute: Top 50 Compositions
Yes, the man himself turns 50 today, March 21st 2009, so I made a little tribute. This video contains his 50 best compositions throughout the years, in my opinion. 50 tunes in one video is a little overkill, but I wanted it to be one video and not ten. All the songs are already on Youtube anyway, so just do a quick search if you want to hear the full versions. Making a top 10 was damn hard, but a top 50 was even worse. Seriously, it was pure torture. First of all, choosing "only" 50 tracks isn't easy when he's made so many great ones. After going through everything once, I had almost 60 tracks that just had to be on the list, and I must have spent at least an hour deciding which ones to get rid off. Then there's the order. With 50 songs of so many different styles and so high quality, it's impossible to make an actual top 50, where the next song is always better than the last one. I think it's safe to say that the first ten are pretty much in order, but then you can divide the rest into groups of five and the tunes within these groups will have no specific order. Of course, it's not completely random either. For example, the first song is always better than the last. Those who saw my Top 10 Battle Tunes will probably notice a few differences. Yes, it's been less than two months and I already disagree with my past self. That's not all, though. Since everything is allowed this time, I can also use The Black Mages versions, and these are some times better than the originals ...

Meeting Nobuo Uematsu
Georgia Tech Chamber Choir sang the choral parts of the Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concert in Atlanta, GA with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on May 6-7, 2011. While waiting for the concert to start, our director and I found Uematsu and asked him if he would speak with the choir for a minute. I blame the shakiness on being in complete shock.

Final Fantasy VII Advent Children - One Winged Angel (Music)
What better way to start out this account than to upload one of the most well known game songs ever. Sorry, it's not the Super Mario Bros theme. It's One Winged Angel! This is the Final Fantasy VII AC version, but it's just as good as the original. If you want me to upload a game song, view the list from the URL below and send me a request for it. If you aren't 100% sure of the song name, feel free to describe what happens during the game when the song plays, I'm usually good at that too. www.freewebtown.com Note: Do not ask for me to send you music, I will not. Do not request for music that is not listed, or from other music genres, such as rock.
"Melodies of Life" - Nobuo Uematsu
A tribute to Summer 2011 - from the soundtrack of Final Fantasy IX, composed by the genius that is Nobuo Uematsu. I learned this arrangement of the piece from another Youtube user, the incredible Lonlonjp, whose weekly videos continue to breathe new life into every Uematsu tune he plays. See his original video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4RmIqNZc4I
Nobuo Uematsu FFVIII - Liberi Fatali piano
Before I know Liberi Fatali, I heard first this piano version. I love it. Spinach Rag - Nobuo Uematsu - 植松伸夫- sight-read by Tom Brier
By popular demand, here's Tom Brier sight-reading Spinach Rag. He has read through this once before, about six years ago, so technically this is his second and third time playing it. Some fun ensues as a customer at the Sutter Creek Ice Cream Emporium, where this was recorded, talks to Tom in awe of how he can do the long left-hand jumps without looking at his hands. That this tune is in sharps instead of flats makes it a bit more difficult to read, since very few rags are in sharp keys. I've been meaning to make a new score of this but have not gotten around to it, so what Tom is reading is this more primitive score that I made in Encore about 10 years ago after receiving an email with MIDI file attached from someone in Japan saying, "My friend makes music for video games. He wrote this rag." That original, primitive score I made, which Tom is reading, is here: www.keeper1st.com It wasn't until recently that I learned what game this was from (Final Fantasy VI). This was the first piece of ragtime from a video game that I had ever come across. After this recording, Tom said that he had forgotten what a good rag it was, and that he should dig out the copy I gave him so many years ago and really learn to play it. So maybe there's an actual performance of this to come in the future... This was recorded at the July meeting of the Mother Lode Ragtime Society, which meets in every odd-numbered month (except November) on the evening of the second Saturday at the Sutter Creek Ice ...
