Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7/ZS3 HD sample videos [1/3]
I'm really digging the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 hybrid camera and when it comes out in March/April 2009 I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy one (going to wait for some reviews first though). Because I want to use it as a videocamera as well (it will replace my old Sony DCR-HC40 Mini DV camcorder) I'm searching the internet for sample videos to see what the quality is like. In this video you will see what I have found so far and they look (and sound) pretty impressive! Remember that the videos in this clip are not made by me, I just edited them into one video. Also, they have not been altered in any way, what you see is the raw footage from a (probably) pre-production unit, so keep that in mind as well as the quality may differ from a retail unit when it comes available.

Since I have found some more sample videos I present to you part 2 of my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 sample video coverage. This is mainly because the TZ7 was released in Japan early March 2009 so Japanese reviews are slowly coming out for this camera whichs means new sample videos are made available to the public. I'm really interested in this new Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 hybrid camera myself and when it hits the stores in March/April 2009 (Europe/America) I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy one (going to wait for some English reviews first though but from what I have read and seen so far all indicates this new TZ camera is going to be another winner for Panasonic). Because the TZ7 can and will be used as a videocamera as well (it will replace my old Sony DCR-HC40 Mini DV camcorder) I'm searching the internet for sample videos to see what the quality is like. In this second video you will see what I have found so far and again they look (and sound) pretty impressive! What you see is the raw footage from a (probably) Japanese retail unit since these samples were part of a Japanese review and since the TZ7 is already released in Japan it's fair to assume they made use of a retail unit for their review. Ps. I know the TZ7 is called ZS3 in the US but since TZ7 is the real organic name ...

Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ7 Test Video

I went to fun diving in Shirasaki. I have DMC-TZ7, which can be used in the sea with the housing. It has diving mode, and I tested that mode in the sea.

There is major amount of soft coral at this site due to regeneration from an attack of the crown of thorns 3 yrs ago... (needs some bugs fixed for 24-5fps though) Those files are imported from I:\PRIVATE\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM 3) Bought the u/w case from amazon japan. There isn't much settings for underwater mode though i did find it worked better than iA. (iA works better for photo night dives!) Also zooming focus can be a problem beyond 0.5m - infinity . [TZ7-HD] Bora Bora Snorkeling
I took my TZ7 and its underwater case (DMW-MCTZ7) to Bora Bora last summer ('09) and this is what I shot the very first day. The water was a bit muddy because of the strong current going in and out in the inner lagoon of the Intercontinental Thalasso & Spa resort where this video was shot. I had a hard time adjusting the levels and colors while editing this video because I didn't set the camera's white balance properly before shooting. For the rest of the underwater videos I changed some settings to get a better picture so it will hopefully be easier to edit them. Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7, FZ38 and GH1 comparison Test Video (V2)
A sequence of video sequences shot in parallel with the TZ7,FZ38 and GH1 to give comparisons of image size and quality at either end of the zoom range. Shot under a variety of outdoor and indoor lighting conditions these sequences should give enough information to enable an informed opinion to be made about the various parameters of each of the cameras. In addition to the Panasonic Lumix camera sequences a parallel sequence shot with the nikon D5000 with standard kit lens are included. It is possible to make benchmark conclusions about the Nikon quality from this video. The opening sequence is shot with a Nikon D90 with f1.8 50mm lens set at f2.8 to give some opinion as to the D90 video quality with a prime lens. Hand held stabilisation shots are included at full zoom on each camera. Sequences were shot outdoors and indoors under tungsten and fluorescent lighting to compare AWB operation.

Panasonic TZ7 AVCHD Lite video test 2
Video shot in 'Normal' mode (not iA) using AVCHD Lite the highest (17mbps) quality, with windcut feature turned off (iA mode automatically turns on windcut feature which seems make the sound bit more muffled). This time video was re-encoded to cut out parts and add de-shaking filter via virtualdub. Encoded using x264 (6000 kbps) which would have resulted in further loss in image quality. Uploaded x264 avi file was ~60Mb.

Even though it's no longer the sole contender in the travel camera category, the TZ7 still stands far above its competitors. If it wasn't for the clunky mode dial and lack of manual controls, we would have no qualms about recommending the TZ7.
