Giuseppe Verdi's Il Trovatore Anvil Chorus

Vedi! le fosche notturne spoglie de' cieli sveste l'immensa volta; sembra una vedova che alfin si toglie i bruni panni ond'era involta. All'opra! all'opra! Dagli, martella! All'opra! all'opra! Chi del gitano i giorni abbella? La zingarella!

Callas - Trovatore 1950

"La grande vociacia" (the big unpretty voice) of Maria Callas (dixit her mentor,T. Serafin) who was singing Isolde, Brünnhilde, Kundry, Fidelio, Turandot and Gioconda, reveals in Mexico 1950 her treasures of agility and line in the rather belcantist Trovatore of Verdi, at a time where coloraturas agilities were rather the prerogative of light sopranos. Dark and incredible flexibility at the end of the duet with the baritone.

Lego Il Trovatore Act 1 by Verdi

Finally the revolution has arrived! Please enjoy the first Act of Lego Il Trovatore. Just a few words about it... These Lego operas are everything you'd see in the real opera... expect very condensed and done by Legos. All the music, story, and subtitles are just as they should be in the opera with some artistic liberties to condense the show as much as I can humanly bear. But rest assure as you watch, this is the wonderful story and music of the legendary opera Il Trovatore. If you enjoy the show, please comment or video comment, and visit back soon for the rest of the opera!

Luciano Pavarotti Il Trovatore (with endless C!!!)

Brilliant technique! Brilliant performance! Brilliant singer of all times! If only could Verdi listen him...

Il Trovatore - Rare excerpts from Met "Scratch Tape" #1

In technical preparation for the Metropolitan Opera PBS telecast of Il Trovatore in 1989, portions of the Saturday matinee of January 21st were videotaped. The matinee cast for this "scratch tape" was somewhat different then the telecast, which had been taped the previous October. This performance had Aprile Millo, rather than Eva Marton, as Leonore and Fiorenza Cossotto, rather than Dolora Zajick, as Azucena. In this excerpt, never before shown publicly, Ms. Millo sings Tacea la nottee placida from Act One. James Levine conducts.

Piero Cappuccilli - Il Trovatore - Verdi tuning

Piero Cappuccilli (baritone) demonstrates the difference between the scientific musical pitch of A=432 (the so-called "Verdi tuning") and the higher, unnatural pitch of A=440. In this example, he sings a part of "Il balen del suo sorriso" from "Il Trovatore" by Giuseppe Verdi. In this aria, the baritone is forced by high tuning to incorrectly pass the register before the E-natural, as a result of the effort on his vocal cords. Cappuccilli gives this example twice, first singing with the piano tuned to A=432, and not passing register, as Verdi wanted, and then with the piano tuned to A=440, indicating to the audience with his hand when the early passage occurred on E-flat. "Watch out for those E-flats," he said before singing it. Recorded at the Schiller Institute conference on Tuning and Registration; Milan, Italy; April 9, 1988. www.schillerinstitute.org

Deanna Durbin Jan Peerce - Miserere - Trovatore

Movie star Deanna Durbin never sang at the Metropolitan Opera, which had pursued her since she was 15. Throughout her career, there were always rumors that she would sing at the Met, but they never came true. Here we have a 25 year old Durbin singing Verdi's Miserere with Metropolitan Opera star Jan Peerce, from the 1947 movie "Something in the Wind". A year later she would make her last movie and turn her back on the world. She has lived in seclusion in France for nearly 60 years.

Giuseppe Verdi - Il Trovatore - Anvil Chorus

The Anvil Chorus is the English term for the Coro di zingari (Italian Gypsy chorus), a piece of music from Act 2, Scene 1 of Giuseppe Verdi's Il trovatore (The Troubador, 1853) which depicts Spanish Gypsies striking their anvils at dawn -- hence its English name -- and singing the praises of hard work, good wine, and their Gypsy women. Most recordings will list this as Vedi! Le fosche notturne. Conductor: Herbert von Karajan Orchestra: Berliner Philharmoniker Chor der Deutschen Oper Berlin

Francesco Tamagno - 'Di Quella Pira' from 'Il Trovatore'

Another recording of Francesco Tamagno. Tamagno sings 'Di Quella Pira' from 'Il Trovatore' for G&T in 1903. This is a Japanese pressing made in early 1930s, using a duplicate master. The side B of this recording is the previous uploaded Caruso's Questa o Quella from 1908. Played on my Numark turntable. Note that Tamagno's voice became much dim than the 1903 pressing.

Björling-Milanov-Warren sing Trovatore Trio

What Trovatore cast could possibly equal this one ? Caruso,Ponselle and Ruffo maybe ? This opera demands singers of extraordinary abiltity for each of the four main roles.

Titta Ruffo - Il balen - Il Trovatore - Rigoletto

This is a rare recording of Titta Ruffo (June 9, 1877 - July 5, 1953) singing Conte di Luna's aria from Il Trovatore by Verdi. He was only 29 years old in this recording. His voice was darker than most basses, but with that ringing dramatic tenor top. That is what a true Verdi baritone voice should sound like.

Franco Bonisolli sings "Ah si, ben mio" & "Di quella pira"

Franco Bonisolli sings Manrico's aria in F-minor ("Ah si, ben mio") and the stretta ("Di quella pira") from Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi. It's unnecessary to say that the stretta IS in key, ie in C-major. (Rehearsal, 2000.) I'm sorry for the poor quality, but I think that Franco Bonisolli, one of the greatest Manricos ever (even if not THE greatest, but let's not forget about Lauri-Volpi, del Monaco, Corelli and others...) can easily make you forget the poor quality of this recording, and I hope You will enjoy this, as well as the other parts of this rehearsal.
