Wyoming Coal Trains
The amount of coal transported by rail each year continues to grow. The Burlington Northern and the Chicago & North Western benefit greatly by hauling this coal out of the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. Watch as each railroad uses its own main line, and then work together on the joint line moving the coal out of the state. The Burlington Northern's 5th Sub from east of Gillette, southeast through Newcastle is the easternmost line. This section of railroad hosts much of the BN's coal traffic and also has plenty of general freight and priority trains as well. The Chicago and North Western operates over a section of its old "Cowboy Line" from Crandall to Shawnee toward the mines. On the Powder River Sub, the C&NW's Dash 9-44 and AC4400CW locomotives lead trains along with a sampling of Union Pacific power. Then the two railroads join together on the BN's 10th Sub, which is also the BN/CNW joint line. This corridor is the direct link to a majority of the Powder River Basin coal mines. Copyright 1995, C. At the request of several people, I went back to the Honey Creek Road railroad crossing for a follow up video. CN 2522 and CN 5635 pull a northbound mixed freight past the new crossing signals. Owosso - 1225 Steam Engine Train - South Cedar Street Crossing
An excursion run leaving Owosso, Michigan, late in the afternoon on November 28, 2008. The train is pulled by the 800000 pound (including tender) Pere Marquette 1225 locomotive ― the largest operating steam engine locomotive in Michigan. Steven Spielberg's production company filmed the exterior sights and sounds of the 1225 for the computer rendering of the movie, "Polar Express," and Lionel Model Trains has also recorded the sounds of the 1225 for its new electric toy model train, "The 1225" ― the namesake of Owosso's 1225. Owosso, Michigan, is the headquarters of the Steam Railroading Institute, which includes a museum and other facilities. The institute's 3.5 acre grounds also hold a roundhouse, the Pere Marquette 1225, the 82000 pound Flagg Coal Company steam switch engine, the 136000 pound Mississippian steam locomotive (under restoration), plus many train cars and other rolling stock from railroads in the United States and Canada. The Owosso-based Steam Railroading Institute was the location of TrainFestival 2009, which was celebrated from July 24th thru July 26th, 2009. The festival drew approximately 36000 visitors to Owosso from around the world. BNSF Detour Trains 6-23-11
Due to an outage at Minot, ND on BNSF's Northern Transcon, all traffic has been rerouted through Laurel. The intermodals and container trains are being routed over Montana Rail Link and the manifest and grain traffic is being routed through Great Falls. This is an exciting time around here as traffic through Laurel has more than doubled overnight! Last night, I ventured out to Columbus, MT just in time to catch five trains in 40 minutes before the weather forced me in for the evening. UP # 844 Cheyenne to Rawlins, WY May 3, 2007 Union Pacific Railroad's historic steam locomotive, No. 844, will travel more than 3000 miles from its base in Wyoming on a 29-day, four-state tour to the Pacific Northwest, to celebrate the railroad's history and heritage. The "Pacific Northwest Portland Rose Heritage Tour" will begin on May 3 when No. 844 leaves Cheyenne, Wyo., and travels to Rock Springs, Wyo. Union Pacific Coal Train (Racine)
UP 5947 and UP 7216 pull an empty coal train from the Oak Creek Power Plant south on the Kenosha Subdivision, with UP 5989 bringing up the rear. This was flimed at the Washington Avenue railroad crossing in Racine, Wisconsin.

(nine locomotives, 500 plus containers) I heard this is just a test train, so you won't see this for everyday. Train IDILBF 08 with nine GE units : UP 7454, UP 7419, UP 7462, UP 7800, UP 5318, UP 7792, UP 7773, UP 7667, UP 7680, departed 10:00AM, 1/8/10, Dit, Texas for ICTF, Carson/Long Beach, California. (arrived ICTF 4:30PM, 1/10/10) According to the UP spokesman, this train is loaded, carried furniture, clothing, electronics and other goods for export.

That's me, my car and my house, but the train footage belongs to a YouTuber called rokenbok45. Many thanks to him for letting me use it! Well, I didn't use chroma keying at all with any colour, I rotoscoped myself and the Saab then placed the train video in behind. Yes, I have the patience to do that. Experiments to derail trains - World War Two RailRoads & Spectacular Train Crash Documentary
In March 1944 the United States National Defense Resources Committee & Office of Strategic Services performed a number of experiments on the Claiborne-Polk military railroad to help determine the best way to derail trains. The results were presented in the film "Derailment". The film discusses amount of explosive used, technique of making "gaps" in railroad track to overturn train. Uses filmographic techniques such as slow motion, reverse motion, and freeze frame to show effects of "gaps" and explosives on train and results of experiments. Illustrated arrows point to areas of train considered especially relevant to experiment. Narrator explains each type of explosive and reason for variations.
