Lucy Farr bio (from: www.nme.com/artists/lucy-farr) bc1912, Ballinakill, County Galway, Eire. An active member of the Rakes for 25 years, venerable Irish fiddler Lucy Farr worked regularly with folk artists such as Bob Davenport, Margaret Barry, Bobby Casey, Jimmy Power and Julia Clifford at a time when Irish traditional music was not achieving the attention it now enjoys. A founder member of the Comhaltas Ceoltiri Eireann organisation, including a span of seven years as its vice-chairman, she has contributed greatly to the advocacy of Irish tradition in music and arts. She began playing at the age of 12 at Saturday night "house dances" at her father's residence, and from then has concentrated on ceilidhs and pub sessions rather than pushing her able technique into the concert limelight. Never one to seek fortune other than enjoyment from her musical talent, she contributed four songs to the 1967 compilation, Paddy In The Smoke. This was later used as the inspiration for Globestyle's 1994 album, In The Smoke, which included another of her compositions, "The Mother Reel". Indeed, her tunes have been widely admired and documented, notably in Pete Cooper's book on fiddling, All Around The World. Arty McGlynn and Nollaig Casey also interpreted Farr's "Music On The Wind" as part of their 1989 release. In 1992 an album was recorded to celebrate her 80th ...

This SHMUP on the Sega Genesis is fairly bland compared to some of the flashier titles like MUSHA and Truxton but still packs some awesome SHMUPS space ship shooter action and plenty of challenge when the difficulty level is set to high. It was first climbed in 1970 by climber and poet Ed Drummond together with Oliver Hill. They took 7 days to climb the cliff, sleeping on ledges and in hammocks along the way. Now, 40 years later, one of the World's top climbers, Dave MacLeod, sets out to climb the cliff in a single day, finishing with a new desperately hard final pitch up the headwall. Macleod's historic new climb, The Longhope Route Direct (E11), is captured close-up with the latest HD cameras and contrasted with the challenges of Drummond's first ascent through interviews and archive material. The film also follows Drummond, now in his late sixties and suffering from Parkinson's disease, as he makes a pilgrimage back to St John's Head to look upon the route one last time.

Winter climbing in Scotland (english)
With friends Ian Parnell (UK) and Audrey Gariepy (Canada), Ines Papert has been climbing some of Scotland's steepest routes. What is so special about Scotland? The access routes are usually long and difficult, the weather can change alarmingly quickly and it is almost always wet and windy. The routes are climbed in traditional style. Gear is placed and removed during the climb. There are no anchor points. A fall could have dramatic consequences. This kind of climbing requires tremendous courage and experience. The team climbed every day until dark and completed some of the most stunning routes in the Northern Highlands -- which are also some of the toughest. A huge challenge -- and not only in front of the camera. Ines climbed Blood Sweat and Frozen Tears (VIII,8), reportedly making her the first woman to lead that grade in Scotland -- needless to say, on-sight. Camera man Hans Hornberger accompanied the team and produced some inspiring footage of the climbs.
