Motion Tracking
Motion tracking is an affordable option even in these tough financial times. In the past Chroma or green screen technology was something reserved only for big-budget Hollywood production houses who could afford to use it, but with recent advances in technology, Chroma has now become cheaper and more accessible than ever before. Now almost any production company that has a green wall and the right lighting can make use of this to film a moving person and later replace the green background with a real or computer generated environment without having to bring in costly optical motion devices. Although chroma has opened up a wealth of opportunities for production companies it has, however, had its limitations as until recently it was imperative that the camera remain still throughout the process. When the green screen was replaced with another background it was nearly impossible to manually adjust the environment in relation to the person in the foreground for a realistic result if the camera was moving. Understanding the limitations of this medium, we have found a way to work around this to create moving shots that look realistic. We place tracking points in the Chroma studio and once the footage is captured, it is taken through an application where a motion algorithm is calculated. In post-production when the green is replaced with the 3D environment, the computer reads these algorithms and makes calculations in reference to the tracking points to create an environment that ...
Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote
Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. By Johnny Chung Lee, Carnegie Mellon University. MovieReshape: Tracking and Reshaping of Humans in Videos
www.mpi-inf.mpg.de We present a system for quick and easy manipulation of the body shape and proportions of a human actor in arbitrary video footage. The approach is based on a morphable model of 3D human shape and pose that was learned from laser scans of real people. The algorithm commences by spatio-temporally fitting the pose and shape of this model to the actor in either single-view or multi-view video footage. Once the model has been fitted, semantically meaningful attributes of body shape, such as height, weight or waist girth, can be interactively modified by the user. The changed proportions of the virtual human model are then applied to the actor in all video frames by performing an image-based warping. By this means, we can now conveniently perform spatio-temporal reshaping of human actors in video footage which we show on a variety of video sequences.

Real Tracking and Shooting Portal Turret

All programming is done with MATLAB and Arduino. Enjoy!

The same technology used to locate lost pets is now being used to track common backyard birds. Scientists and students at the Cornell Lab have collected data on hundreds of thousands of feeder visits so far by Black-capped Chickadees and other birds. Tiny tags weighing less than one-tenth of a gram are attached to the birds' legs and are detected each time the birds visit specially-rigged feeders. euronews hi-tech - Game on for eye tracking technology
www.euronews.com Computer games can be played using eye-tracking technology to control the action on screen. All players have to do is look at what they want to shoot. Two cameras record eye movements and send commands to the software. Swedish company Tobii has been working on this technology for 10 years, and it is already well established as an aid for disabled people. Henrik Eskilsson, the CEO of Tobii, explains: "Before, humans had to learn how to communicate with the computer on the computer's own terms. Now we are teaching the computer to communicate with humans on human terms." One use of this technology is typing: the author simply looks at keys displayed on the screen in order to press them. Now, the technology to do this can be easily integrated into normal computers, revolutionizing user-interface. This type of software could, for example, know which word you are looking at on the screen, so it could scroll down the page automatically as you read. Eye tracking can be used in combination with other control methods, like voice recognition or clicking on a touchpad. You could look at an icon you want to open and click on the touchpad to open the programme. Henrik Eskilsson said: "It is possible that you will still have a mouse for some very specialised things but eye control is going to used a lot more than the mouse in a few years time." The developers are also integrating the system into normal glasses, which will become a portable technology to be used with any ...
