This eightsomething-year-old man, introduced to me as Rappin' Pappy, specializes in strictly rap karaoke. Apparently he only shows up to this joint once a year, too, so I was lucky to capture him giving everybody his version of Tone Loc's "Wild Thing," as well as some Young MC later on. I'm pretty sure he did the whole thing without his teeth in, too, which ought to amaze pretty much everyone. Recorded on 9/15/10 @ Wolfy's in Sanford, FL.

The song was co-written by Marvin Young, better known as Young MC, as was the second single smash, "Funky Cold Medina." The album Loc-ed After Dark became the second rap release ever to top the pop charts. Tone-Loc expanded his horizons into acting in 1992 and 1993, appearing a few times on the Fox sitcom Roc. He was also in the films Posse and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and in 1991 returned to recording with Cool Hand Loc.

American hip-hop artist/actor, born 3 March 1966, Compton, California. Scored big in 1989 with his crossover hit "Wild Thing." Taken from his debut album, Loc-ed After Dark, the single was penned by fellow pop-rapper Young MC and featured a sample from Van Halen's "Jamie's Cryin'". Tone Loc was discovered by Delicious Vinyl label owners Matt Dike and Michael Ross in the late '80s, who signed him for his unique, gravelly voice. Even though "Wild Thing" and its follow-up, "Funky Cold Medina" (also written by Young MC) were huge commercial hits, and Loc-ed After Dark was only the second rap album to top the charts, Loc was quickly scorned by a majority of the hip-hop scene. Consequently, his sophomore effort, Cool Hand Loc (1991), didn't fare as well. Loc adapted, however, and left music behind to focus on his acting career. Tone Loc has since appeared in television (on Fox's "Roc") and movies (Posse, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective); and has used his instantly recognizable vocal chords to voice-over commercials and animated works. Got his nickname from his name "Tony" and the slang term "Lōc", which refers to members of the Los Angeles street gang the "Crips", of which Tone Lōc was previously a member.

Tone Loc - Wild Thing "Wild Thing" is the name of rapper Tone Lōc's 1988 single from the album Lōc-ed After Dark. The title is a reference to the phrase "doin' the wild thing," a euphemism for sex, unlike The Troggs' hit song, "Wild Thing", (with a later psychedelic version by Jimi Hendrix) in which the "wild thing" was a girl. Tone Lōc's song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1989,[1] and spawned at least one parody (by "Weird Al" Yankovic, called "Isle Thing"). It eventually sold over two million copies. It also peaked at number 21 on the UK Singles Chart. The song uses an uncredited sample of Van Halen's "Jamie's Cryin'". Van Halen's management at the time asked for a flat fee (credited in some reports to be USD$5000) as payment to have the song sampled by Tone Lōc. Apparently, this decision was taken without consulting the band's original members (credited as co-authors of the song), who in turn did not expect Wild Thing to become the major hit it became. A subsequent civil lawsuit was settled out of court, with the band receiving USD$180000 as settlement payment. Alex Van Halen has gone on record saying that he had heard the song over the radio halfway and not realizing it had been sampled until he recognized his (by now famous) tom-tom break at least a few times. Concerning the settlement, he said: "Well, at least we got something. Tone Lōc and his people made millions out of it..." The song was remixed in 2007 with additional production and ...
