Almighty Thor
When the demon-god Loki attacks Valhalla and kills Odin, Odin's son Thor must escape to the earth-realm of Mitgard (modern-day Los Angeles). With the help of Jarnsaxa, Thor's guardian demigoddess, he races to find the Hammer of Invincibility in order to stop Loki. Bent on the destruction of earth, Loki descends upon Los Angeles with an army of Garmr (monstrous, man-eating dogs). Thor, armed with the hammer, puts a stop to the destruction. But Loki captures Jarnsaxa and tricks Thor into giving up the hammer. Loki kills Jarnsaxa, throws Thor into a fiery pit, and summons an army of Lindworms (bipedal reptilian monsters). Armed with the Hammer of Invincibility, Loki begins Ragnarok (Armageddon). But Thor, deep in the fiery pit, summons his god-powers and forges Mjollnir, the true Hammer of the Gods. This is Part 2 of 3 of my series on Thor. This video covers using Thor's extensive routing matrix to make really cool, switchable and programmable effects. I've made a patch that exercises some of your options when routing Thor, but the real power is in your brain. Once you know how to do things like this, you can take the time to make your own patches from scratch and really flourish in Reason. I'm using a Subtractor mono synth, only running 1 oscillator and 1 LFO, turned stereo as the basis for my sound and all other modulation is done through Thor's routing matrix and Combinator button assignments. I've tried to provide the most detailed information I could find in the Annotations, so make sure you have those turned on for the full effect. Last week, two members of Marvel's The Avengers - Captain America and Thor - went head-to-head in the ultimate battle for fanboy supremacy. We may be seeing these two mighty heroes duke it out on the big screen come May 4th, but we had to go to you, our experts to see who will come out on top. This faceoff definitely brought out the fanboy (and fangirl) in all of us and some of you didn't hold back with your comments. Anthony Gutierrez was Team Cap saying, "Captain America is more than capable of outsmarting Thor and using his own weapon against him and even causing some serious damage with his shield. " While SlashSpider said, "Captain America has the moral compass that thor doesn't seem to have." KarlM29 was also pro Captain America saying "Thor is cocky and arrogant. Captain America is calm, cool and collected." The god of thunder had his fans as well with cvargas202 saying, "I love Captain America, but let's be realistic, at the end of the day he is just a human and Thor is a God." She reveals more about herself as an athlete and coach. Thorisdottir credits her background as a gymnast for much of her success in CrossFit. She started coaching gymnastics at age 15 and has been coaching CrossFit for almost two years. In addition to her fitness pursuits, Thorisdottir is also a full-time student studying chemistry. "I wanna study medicine—I just haven't had time for it," she says. Thorisdottir has been even busier since returning to Iceland. "After the Games this year, like everybody in Iceland knows what CrossFit is," she says. In fact, the popularity of the sport means she has even had to turn down new clients due to lack of space. Reason 4 Tutorial - Using all 4 of Thor's Inputs and Outputs - Part 3 of 3
This video shows the routing concepts and techniques needed to use all 4 of Thor's inputs and outputs to make really complex, evolving and dynamic synth patches based around Thor's expansive filter sections. Thor itself is an absolute beast, but when used in combinations of other forms of synthesis and other devices it's true power is unlocked. Here, we're using 2 Malstrom synths and some new routing and cabling options in the first patch to show how this needs to be set up. The second part of the video is a creative patch that I made that shows how to truly make Thor an instrument like one you've never seen. One with the ability to change the entire scope of the patch and sound on-the-fly. It was difficult enough finding five combos that didn't look too similiar. The counter hit jump S isn't needed for any of the combos but I sometimes use it to get in that extra damage to KO an opponent. -NOTES- 01) Zero: Dishing out some straight forward damage. Shows some methods on how you can extend his air combo potential. 02) X-23: Death from a command throw. It does slightly less damage if you use the ground Mighty Hurricane since you'll only be able to connect a standing M after the bounce instead of standing H. 03) Arthur: Going for more flashy things now. Although the Mighty Punish hyper whiffs, it is needed to get rid of recovery from the Mighty Spark so Thor can combo after it in time.
