However, it made it to some American arcades as Vs. The Goonies of the Nintendo Vs. Series and as a selection on the PlayChoice-10. PlayChoice-10 was an arcade machine which could consist of as many as 10 different games previously available only on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) home console.

MSX - The Goonies (1986) - Stage 1
The first level of the first MSX game I ever played. Even though the graphics and sound are not great and the game does not follow the original movie, this game holds so many warm memories for me. It is one of the most enjoying platform games for the MSX-1 system. Unlike the NES version, in this game you play Sloth. Your goal is to rescue all seven Goonies, captured by the Fratelli gang. They are locked up in cages for which you need keys. You can carry one key at the time. Also, there are several hidden powerups to be found. - football helmet, scene 01-01: protects against falling rock, wears down eventually - shoes, scene 02-01: makes you walk faster, an item you cannot do without - yellow raincoat, scene 04-04: protects against water drops and water spraying from pipes, wears down eventually - powerup, scene 05-02: restores some vitality - candy, scene 05-01: makes silver doubloons appear from water drops a whole lot more often that normal, wears down quickly if you grab those coins Lets see if I can do the other levels under 10 minutes as well.

Cyndi Lauper - The Goonies 'R' Good Enough
Before its inclusion on The Essential Cyndi Lauper in 2003, the song was considered a rarity among fans, having never appeared on any of Lauper's albums or the 1994 compilation Twelve Deadly Cyns...and Then Some. Lauper admitted in an interview with Matthew Rettenmund for his 1996 book Totally Awesome 80s: A Lexicon of the Music, Videos, Movies, TV Shows, Stars, and Trends of that Decadent Decade that she hated the song, which was why she had chosen not to include it on her first compilation. All versions of the UK edition are considered rare, especially the 12". The song has been covered by a few artists, such as Bombones, Haruko Momoi, New Found Glory, and Tomoyuki Uchida. The song was also featured as an instrumental version in Pop'n Music 10. Steven Spielberg had made Cyndi the musical director for, "The Goonies" soundtrack. She sought out new bands to be included on the project including her friends, "the Bangles." Cyndi refused to play the song live after 1986. She finally incorporated it back into her live show during a 2005 concert in Baltimore, Maryland. Fans kept screaming to hear the song, and she sang it acapella. She has since incorporated the song back into her live set, due to overwhelming fan recognition.

The Goonies for NES Video Walkthrough Part 1
The Goonies for NES/Famicom was never released in the USA outside of Play-Choice 10 machines, though the sequel, Goonies II, was. The game is similar to The Goonies II, but with a far greater focus on arcade-style action. Commentary: 0:04 - The title screen is interesting. You can clearly make out Sloth, either Andy or Steph, and even Chunk. Who that guy running on the left is, though? No idea. 0:10 - They got the theme song here. Anyways, the idea is to kick mice, get the bombs, and use them to open the safes to get keys to move to the next area. You also need to save a Goonie in each area, or risk having to do the game over again. 0:14 - 8 Diamonds are hidden in each area. I don't get all of them, but I do get most of them. The hidden items in each stage are revealed by standing under them and performing some sort of input...in this stage, it's B. Collecting 8 diamonds refills your life bar. 0:23 - You need 3 keys to open the door. Note that a bomb exploding on Mikey is instant death. Be careful where you drop them. You can carry one bomb at a time. 0:27 - There's also hidden items in the game, which REALLY help. You find them the same way you find the diamonds: stand under them and hit buttons. Each of the items nullifies a certain type of attack. This is the Headphones, which protects Mikey from sound. 0:36 - The Fratelli Brothers will show up to harass you. Jake here has a gun, the other brother, Francis, will "sing" damaging notes at you (hence the headphones). They ...
