Accompanied by my friend Mary Freer from North Carolina, USA, we visited the Temple Church in Temple, London which was once built and owned by the Knights Templar of England. Contained within are a number of Templar grave effigies, and in common with all European Templar places of worship, the church is rounded. Join us as we explore this beautiful if not noisy relic of the Crusaders. The Temple Church is a late 12th century church in London located between Fleet Street and the River Thames, built for and by the Knights Templar as their English headquarters. In modern times, two Inns of Court (Inner Temple and Middle Temple) both use the church. It is famous for its effigy tombs and for being a round church. It was heavily damaged during the Second World War but has been largely restored. The area around the Temple Church is known as the Temple and nearby is Temple Bar and Temple tube station. The Knights Templar order was very powerful in England, with the Master of the Temple sitting in parliament as primus baro (the first baron of the realm). The compound was regularly used as a residence by kings and by legates of the Pope. The Temple also served as an early depository bank, sometimes in defiance of the Crown's wishes to seize the funds of nobles who had entrusted their wealth there. In 1972, British script writer Henry Lincoln introduced the Mystery of Rennes-le-Château to the English speaking world through his documentary "The Lost Treasure of Jerusalem." HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU READ THIS FIRST! Alright there's a story behind this particular project so here goes. Last September we came up with the idea for an Assassin's Creed-inspired web series set in modern day times. We wrote about 3 episodes out of maybe 8. This was actually supposed to be episode 3. Due to several reasons, we decided to put the entire project on 'indefinite hold', but before we did that we had already shot the entirety of episode 3. Since we weren't going to restart the project any time soon (and if we did we'd probably rewrite and reshoot everything), I decided to edit the footage that we already shot. This is the result. You can easily see the directing mistakes and ambiguity of story. Some scenes are a little jerky between cuts and whatnot but hey every video is a learning process. In the end we still had fun making this and that's what matters for us. The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon (Latin: Pauperes commilitones Christi Templique Solomonici), commonly known as the Knights Templar, the Order of the Temple (French: Ordre du Temple or Templiers) or simply as Templars, were among the most famous of the Western Christian military orders. The organization existed for nearly two centuries during the Middle Ages. Officially endorsed by the Catholic Church around 1129, the Order became a favored charity throughout Christendom, and grew rapidly in membership and power. Templar knights, in their distinctive white mantles with a red cross, were among the most skilled fighting units of the Crusades. Non-combatant members of the Order managed a large economic infrastructure throughout Christendom, innovating financial techniques that were an early form of banking, and building fortifications across Europe and the Holy Land. The Templars' existence was tied closely to the Crusades; when the Holy Land was lost, support for the Order faded. Rumors about the Templars' secret initiation ceremony created mistrust, and King Philip IV of France, deeply in debt to the Order, took advantage of the situation. In 1307, many of the Order's members in France were arrested, tortured into giving false confessions, and then burned at the stake.
