Bar Stool Economics and How Taxes Work
Lee Doren from HowTheWorldWorks created this video. HowTheWorldWorks has been around for about two years. Mother Jones Chart: goo.gl Original Story: goo.gl Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all such good customers", he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20". Drinks for the ten now cost just $80. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his "fair share?" They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay. And so: The ...

Will Higher Tax Rates Balance the Budget?
Students, get a full week of this at a summer seminar: lrnlbty.co As the US debt and deficit grows, some politicians and economist have called for higher tax rates in order to balance the budget. The question becomes: when the government raises taxes, does it actually collect a larger portion of the US economy? Professor Antony Davies examines 50 years of economic data and finds that regardless of tax rates, the percentage of GDP that the government collects has remained relatively constant. In other words, no matter how high government sets tax rates, the government gets about the same portion. According to Davies, if we're concerned about balancing the budget, we should worry less about raising tax revenue and more about growing the economy. The recipe for growth? Lower tax rates and a simplified tax code.

The Tax Whose Name Cannot be Spoken
Praised by Barack Obama as a model for the world, Australia's highly unpopular carbon tax, set to take effect from July 1st, is set to be policed by laws which forbid business owners from criticizing it for causing price rises -- with thought criminals who do so under threat of being hit with huge fines of over $1 million dollars. "SHOPS and restaurants could face fines up to $1.1 million if waiters or sales staff wrongly blame the carbon tax for price rises or exaggerate the impact," reports the Daily Telegraph. According to ACCC deputy chairman Dr Michael Schaper, the warning applies, "to comments made by staff over the phone, on the shop floor or in meetings. It also covers advertising, product labels, websites, invoices, contracts and contract negotiations." This draconian measure will be enforced by teams of "carbon cops" who roam the streets conducting snap inspections of businesses to ensure they are not making any reference to the tax. The characterization of dissent against the carbon tax as a criminal offense exemplifies how the measure passed last year goes way beyond merely forcing Australia's top 500 companies to pay an extra $23.78 per each tonne of CO2 emitted. The system will be rolled into a carbon trading system by 2015. www.infowars.com by Paul Joseph Watson

Death, Taxes and Internal Checkpoints: Live in The New America
Now that Government Coercion Day -- er, Tax Day, April 15 -- is behind us, I thought it might be appropriate to show a federal bureaucrat rationalizing your sacrifice at gunpoint. In the video here, Obama's Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis, tells us government "services" are the American Dream. Back in the day, the idea of the American Dream was taken from the Declaration of Independence -- it revolved around "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" -- but over the last one hundred years or so the government has significantly diminished the ability to attain liberty and happiness. As for Life, far too many of us have surrendered a large part of it to the government so Solis and her ilk may continue to grow the federal dinosaur. Solis promises to tax you more for government "services," although she does not say it that way. Instead, she says Obama plans to tax the rich -- in other words, the somewhat rich since the real rich, the bankers and their globalist transnational corporations, never pay taxes. The reality of the situation is that any "service" the government provides can be provided more cost effectively and efficiently by the people Obama promises to tax -- the "rich" small business owners and entrepreneurs, the folks who create most of the jobs in America. by Kurt Nimmo www.infowars.com www.infowars.com www.prisonplanet.tv twitter.com www.facebook.com

Apple Dodged $2.4 Billion In Taxes Last Year
