Tangents and Circles - YourTeacher.com - Geometry Help

In this lesson, students learn the following theorems related to tangents. If a line is tangent to a circle, then the line is perpendicular to the radius at the point of tangency. If a line is perpendicular to a radius at its outer endpoint, then the line is tangent to the circle. If two tangent segments are drawn to a circle from an external point, then the tangent segments are congruent. Students are then asked to use these theorems to find missing segment lengths and missing angle measures in given figures. Students also learn the definitions of common internal tangents and common external tangents.

In this lesson, students learn that the sine of an angle of a right triangle is equal to the length of the side opposite the angle over the length of the hypotenuse (SOH), the cosine of an angle of a right triangle is equal to the length of the side adjacent to the angle over the length of the hypotenuse (CAH), and the tangent of an angle of a right triangle is equal to the length of the side opposite the angle over the length of the side adjacent to the angle (TOA). Students are then asked to find the values of the sine, cosine, and tangent of given angles in given right triangles.

Professor Burger shows you how to graph tanx using the identity tanx = sinx/cosx. This graph has asymptotes at all the multiples of Pi/2 and a period of Pi/absolute value of b. Next, you learn to graph secx, which is equal to 1/cosx. This means that secant has an asymptote anywhere cosx = 0. Next, Prof. Burger graphs cosecant, using the identity that cscx = 1/sinx. This graph is identical to secx, but shifted, like the relationship between sin and cos. Finally, you will learn to graph cotx, which is equal to 1/tanx. This means that there will be asymptote where tanx = 0, and zeros where tanx has asymptotes. Taught by Professor Edward Burger, this lesson was selected from a broader, comprehensive course, Precalculus.

The sound was recorded on an Edirol R09 placed near the mixing desk but not directly connected. The sound was EQ'd and max'd using L3 in Wavelab. Edited using the multicam feature of Adobe Premiere CS5, with Pixelan FX.

The Tangent - Debussy "La Mer" First DEMONSTRATION file
Andy Tillison & Luke Machin's arrangement of the Ravel orchestration of Debussy's piece, "Dialogue du Vents et de la Mer". This is the first rough demonstration of how the piece could sound. It's intended for this to be a vocal piece and in the absence of singing on this version the piece has been shortened to cut out the repetition of "verses". The video has been interspersed with photographic imagery representing the proposed lyrical slant. All the instruments so far have been taken from or added to the original Ravel/Debussy score, by Andy Tillison. Luke Machin is at time of publication, writing guitar parts. All guitars here are emulations. The intention is to use, but in many ways spoil and wreck the glorious and romantic view of the sea encapsulated in the original piece.. reflecting the ways in which human beings have effectively wrecked 'The Sea' of which Debussy originally wrote. Although our version will ruin the piece for many, we believe that the man's genius becomes even more apparent when this piece bends and applies so well to subject matter he wasn't even considering when he wrote it. The piece is earmarked to appear as an extra track on the forthcoming album "Le Sacre De Travail" which is a large scale symphonic piece by Myself and Luke Machin. This video is posted for those interested in following the project from its beginnings, there will be more from all areas of the project. Controlling Balll With a 90 Degree Angle (Tangent Line)
www.BilliardsDirectOnline.com Lets admit it; a lot of people have no clue where the cue ball is going to end up after they strike their object ball. What follows will be a technique for how to properly shoot at a 90 degree angle, also known as the Tangent Line. Take a look at the video below for specifications on each shooting situation I mention. First, you need to know where your point of contact is. The point of contact is where you'd have to hit the cue ball on the object ball to make it in the pocket. Once you know where your point of contact is, you can begin to work out this 90 degree technique. Take note of that point of contact. Now you want to line your cue up along that point of contact leading into the pocket. Take your cue and move it 90 degrees (to the left, in this case). Put a piece of chalk right there to provide a visual marker for yourself. When you're just hitting center ball, the ball will bounce off the rail at 90 degree angles. Once you have that technique down, let's try using some English. In this situation, I'll do the same as before and set a piece of chalk as a marker. But I don't want to hit that chalk. I want to hit further up on the rail, so I'll have to put low English on it. The ball will travel at 90 degrees for a moment and then pull away. The same principles apply with high english.
