On December 10th 1989 the first TAC commercial went to air. In that year the road toll was 776; by last year 2008 it had fallen to 303. A five minute retrospective of the road safety campaigns produced by the TAC over the last 20 years has been compiled. The montage features iconic scenes and images from commercials that have helped change they way we drive, all edited to the moving song Everybody Hurts by REM. This campaign is a chance to revisit some of the images that have been engraved on our memories, remember the many thousands of people who have been affected by road trauma and remind us all that for everyones sake; please, drive safely. Peter Bellion is a veteran investigator of the Victoria Police MCIU (Major Collision Investigation Unit) assessing many hundreds of fatal crashes. He has advised on a number of TAC campaigns. On this occasion he fronts the camera to reinforce the Wipe off 5 message with a graphic demonstration of how a car driving just 5 km/h faster can impact on the severity of injuries sustained by a vulnerable road user such as a pedestrian.. This was one of the most complex commercials ever made in Australia. One 20 frame sequence took visual effects teams in two cities 10 days to complete.Launched: 2006. Motorcycle Reconstruction - TAC tv road safety commercial
The latest TAC public education campaign targets two of Victoria's biggest issues in road safety -- motorcycle safety and speed. The campaign, titled "Reconstruction", features a slow motion replay of a crash involving a motorcyclist and a car. The ad graphically depicts the rider suffering a broken neck as a result of his speeding prior to the collision. Victoria Police Major Collision Investigator Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Peter Bellion features in the ad and explains how the crash could be avoided had the rider obeyed the speed limit. We made it lighter by removing the "stirrup" from the front assembly, and made it more durable by adding the very convenient front bumpers. Then we added three other versions of this revolutionary crossbow and remade the video in HD. Those who could not legally own the TAC 15 because of assault rifle laws (or gun laws in general) in your country can now purchase the TAC 15i (the i stands for integrated). Our engineers took the original design and integrated our own trigger and safety into the crossbow itself. No part of the TAC 15i can be converted into a firearm, making it legal in many places that the TAC 15 is not. Unlike the TAC 15, the TAC 15i does not need an additional lower receiver, as it includes its own trigger, safety, and adjustable stock. This brings us to the other two: the TAC 10 and TAC 10i. Both are a shorter version of the TAC 15 and TAC 15i, making them easier to handle and maneuver in the field. Concerns were brought up about the speed of the TAC 15, which makes it illegal to hunt with in Michigan. So we made sure the TAC 10 and TAC 10i do not break the Michigan speed limit! Tic Tac's: To step off a wall in order to overcome another obstacle or gain height to grab something Step 1) In order to be able to do a tic tac or wall jump or Saut de mur as the French would say, you must understand the physics of doing so. Know that it is you speed and angle to the wall that will allow you to grip better. Step 2) Always spot the location where your foot is meeting the wall until you foot hits. Step 3) drive your arms and outside knee up and at the direction you would like to travel. Step 4) Practice! See how far you can tac away from the wall or high you can tac to precision. "Vice Versa" TAC Motorcycle TV road safety campaign
The 'Vice Versa' campaign was first launched in 2002 and is aimed at car drivers highlighting the vulnerability of motorcyclists and the need to be more aware and actively look for them on the road. The campaign depicts a rider in everyday traffic conditions and a car driver who is attempting to change lanes. The campaign asks for both road users to "Put yourself in their shoes" and realise the importance of sharing the road with all vehicles and users.
