Vangelis - The Bounty (Opening Theme)
This is the opening theme from the 1984 film, "The Bounty", directed by Roger Donaldson. The film is based on one of most notorious scandals in the history of the British Royal Navy - the seizure of the HMS Bounty by a group of rebellious crew members in 1789. The crew members had apparently become a bit too friendly with the natives of the island of Tahiti, and refused to leave. The film stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as Lieutenant William Bligh, the Bounty's commander, and Mel Gibson as Fletcher Christian, Bligh's best friend turned lead mutineer. "The Bounty" breaks with some of the conventions established by previous takes on the incident. Traditionally, Bligh was portrayed as a cruel, sadistic tyrant, and Christian as a brave freedom fighter. However, this film offers a more sympathetic (and realistic) view of Bligh as a verbally abusive but otherwise quite progressive ship's commander simply trying to do his job. At the same time, Christian is given a less sympathetic (and, again, more realistic) portrayal as an opportunistic social climber. In other words, while Bligh was traditionally the villian and Christian the hero, "The Bounty" essentially reverses these roles or at least blurs the distinction. Blue Jam Monologue - 01 Gun
This collection of monologues, originally conceived and written by Robert Katz, with later collaboration by Chris Morris, are taken from Morris's radio series 'Blue Jam'. Morris and Katz skilfully weave together cleverly groggy first person storytelling with thick ambient soundscapes and loops, creating a disturbing, disgusting, funny, and strangely enthralling world for our nameless sympathetic half-tramp hero to fall victim to. This narrator takes us on a journey through his nightmare world; populated by pretentious art scenesters, cynical media executives, obsequious dinner guests and unfriendly, aggressive passers by. Like all of Morris's work this will not be to everybody's taste, certainly not the faint of heart, squeamish or easily offended. To everyone else be prepared to immerse yourself head first into one mans car crash nightmare of a life.

Through A Blue Lens documents a year of life and death on the street and behind tenement walls. The striking thing about the film is not the horror of drug abuse but the story of how the interaction between the police and the drug addicts, with the camera as a catalyst, actually changed the people involved. The cops became more sympathetic to the people on the street and the drug addicts, in having friendship extended to them by the police and film makers, developed self esteem and, in some cases, actually cleaned up.

Having placed last in the Second Selection, Len's competitiveness is on overdrive and returns on stage with a vengeance in the Third Selection by playing a complicated piece like Tzigane. Little does he know that the chaotic atmosphere of this composition will later have a similar effect on Kahoko & her performance and the mood of other concours participants (especially Kazuki**). ** He would be the most sympathetic to her situation - so lovely & endearing!
