Rye, East Sussex

Perched on a hill, the medieval town of Rye is the sort of place you thought existed only in your imagination. Almost suspended in time, Rye's unhurried atmosphere and enchanting streets draw visitors with their warm welcome. It's small enough to make you feel at home almost straight away but holds enough secret treasures to entice you to stay much longer. When you're in need of a treat or want to escape the pressures of modern life, come to Rye. With only 5000 inhabitants, it retains a village atmosphere and old-fashioned values. A town to be explored and enjoyed on foot

A Tour of East Sussex.wmv

Beachy Head is a chalk headland on the south coast of England, close to the town of Eastbourne in the county of East Sussex, immediately east of the Seven Sisters. The cliff there is the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain, rising to 162 m (530 ft) above sea level. The headland was a danger to shipping. In 1831 construction began on Belle Tout lighthouse on the next headland west from Beachy Head. It became operational in 1834. Due to cliff erosion, in March 1999 Belle Tout lighthouse was moved more than 50 feet (15 m) further inland. Because mist and low clouds could hide the light of Belle Tout, another lighthouse was built in the sea below Beachy Head. It was 43 m in height and became operational in October 1902. The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk cliffs by the English Channel. They form part of the South Downs in East Sussex, between the towns of Seaford and Eastbourne in southern England. They are within the Seven Sisters Country Park. They are the remnants of dry valleys in the chalk South Downs, which are gradually being eroded by the sea. Bateman's is a 17th-century house located in Burwash, East Sussex, England. British author Rudyard Kipling lived in Bateman's from 1902 to his death in 1936. His wife left the house to the National Trust on her death in 1939, and it has since been opened to the public. Hastings is a town and borough in the county of East Sussex on the south coast of England. The town is located 24 miles (39 km) east of the county town of ...

Lewes castle, Sussex.

Lewes castle in Sussex and a beautiful rainbow. The first fortification on the site was a wooden keep, later converted to stone. It is unusual for a motte and bailey construction in that it has two mottes. It is one of only two such remaining in the country, the other being Lincoln. The Barbican is a particularly fine example of its type. It was built in 1087 by William de Warenne, 1st Earl of Surrey, the brother-in-Law of William the Conqueror. William de Warenne and his descendants also had estates and built castles in Reigate, Surrey (Reigate Castle) and in Yorkshire (Sandal Castle and Conisbrough Castle). When the last of the Warennes John, the 8th Earl died without issue in 1347, he was buried in Lewes Priory. His title passed to his nephew Richard Fitzalan who was also Earl of Arundel. Music by Alan Stivell, Renaissance of the celtic harp.

The Kent & East Sussex Railway before preservation

The Kent & East Sussex Light Railway. known in it's first few years as the Rother Valley Railway, was opened between 1903 and 1905 and ran from Robertsbridge on the Tonbridge-Hastings line to Headcorn Junction on the South Eastern main line. The line became part of British Railways upon nationalisation in 1948 and, in common with many similarly unprofitable rural branch lines was steadily run down, closing to passenger traffic on 2nd January 1954 (at which point the section from Tenterden Town to Headcorn Junction was closed altogether) and to all traffic on 12th July 1961. The K&ESR survived as one of the first preserved railway lines in the UK and is now a very successful tourist attraction. These scenes however date from the period whilst the line was still part of the national network. The first few scenes depict ex-South Eastern Railway Class O1 0-6-0 No.31070 on a single coach train, filmed in 1952 at Frittenden Road, Biddenden, High Halden Road, St Michaels Halt, Rolvenden Shed (where former K&ESR Terrier No.3 Bodiam in her BR guise as No.32670 can be seen), and Rolvenden Station. We switch to a different film showing No.31070 again ascending the bank from Robertsbridge, with an ex-LSWR bogie brake and ex-SR brake van in tow, past St.Mildreds Church and arriving at Tenterden Town. Also from the same reel, at Tenterden we see Terrier No.32670 coupling up to a Birdcage brake, and then at Robertsbrige Junction. We now jump ahead to 1961 at which point the only ...

Noah - Peaceman's Farm / Sussex (vinyl)

All images in this video are taken from scans and photos of my own personal vinyl copy of Noah's "Peaceman's Farm" album. The audio is sourced from one of my vinyl copies using anOracle Delphi MKIII turntable, an SME45 tone arm, and a Vanden Hull MC-10 MC cartridge. Though I suppose after digital transfer to mp3, compression etc...all this is irrelevant. The band started originally playing local clubs around Trenton, Ontario in 1964-65 as Buzzy And The Belvederes. The band featured 'Buzzy' Vandersel's (who was 14 at the time of the band's inception), his older cousins Peter & Marinus Vandertogt and finally, lead singer Paul Clapper. The band was re-christened Tyme And A Half by Nimbus 9 Productions' manager Al MacMillan during the recording of their first single "It's Been A Long Time". They would release the song and a second single in 1969. The group landed a deal with RCA-Victor through their Nimbus 9 producer Jack Richardson, and with a final name change to NOAH, released their eponymous debut in 1970. Paul Clapper, unhappy with the direction the band was taking under the leadership of Al McMillan, left and was replaced by Ron Neilson as they toured the debut album. However, Neilson also left and Noah carried on as a three piece. Moving to ABC/Dunhill their 1972 album 'Peaceman's Farm' was produced by Randy Bachman. Bachman also wrote the song "Sussex" for the record and played guitar on several tracks as did keyboardist Jim Morgan. The song "World Band" would later ...

Dark Places In West Sussex England, Bignor Hill Car Park. 01/10/2011.

West Sussex is a very light polluted county, but Bignor Hill car park is a good spot for a bit of stargazing, the Milkyway is visable and during daylight the view is impressive. The road up to the car park can scarcely be called one at all, and although it is passable for wheels, a stout pony will do the work far better. The hill-sides are here much more wooded than in other parts of the South Downs, and are picturesque in proportion. The green coombes, and the patches, delicious to the eye and the imagination, of "holt" and "shaw," as the little woods are locally named, together with the incessant play of light and shade along them, will recall Copley Fielding at every step. www.fittleworthflyers.org.uk
