Rate The Version: Robin Luke - Susie Darlin'
I tend to avoid posting charting records, let alone big hit records like this #5 charting record. However, this is being posted as a compare and contrast to the remade version I have posted by Mike Curb. Here you can hear how Robin originally intended the song to sound. If i remember correctly, Robin recorded this on a reel to reel tape recorder in his living room in his apartment in Hawaii, adding his own overdubs one layer at a time. As my 45 is not in the greatest condition, audio for this track was dubbed from a Time Life cd that the song appears on (and it was checked multiple times against the 45 to make sure it was the exact same version). To dispell a rumor, this song was NOT written for his dying sister (who is actually alive and well in Columbia, Missouri), he simply put her name on it to keep himself out of trouble with the girls at his highschool (I'm sure every single one of them wanted their name on the record, and would be mad if it wasn't, so he added none of them, to keep the playing field fair). Susie Q
Susie Q is a 1995 Super RTL Original movie that aired on Disney Channel frequently in the late 1990s. Justin Whalin, Amy Jo Johnson and Shelley Long starred. The movie told the story of a teenager dying with her boyfriend on her way to their Winter Formal back in the mid-1950s and coming back to her old house about 40 years later in order to help her parents avoid being kicked out of their trailer park home. Later, Zach (Whalin) moves into Susie's (Johnson) old house, but he is the only one who is able to see Susie. Disney Channel stopped showing the movie later in the new millennium. It was given a "TV-G" rating, and it was already cut for some profanity, but not all, when it primarily aired on the Disney Channel.

The song became a national Top 10 hit. A few years later, Luke simply disappeared from the charts, leaving a generation of radio listeners wondering what happened to him. Luke was 16 when he became a national teen idol whose contemporaries included Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, Richie Valens, Frankie Avalon, Sam Cooke and the Everly Brothers. "My dad used to say it was better than being an idle teen," Luke said. "He also told me when it all began not to allow my hat size to increase." There was no chance of that happening, says Dick Ednie, Luke's best friend who played "bucket bass" when they performed together at parties and variety shows. "Robin never wanted fame and glory," said Ednie, now manager of Bank of Hawaii's Honokaa branch on the Big Island. "He was more secure in academics than rock shows. UPDATE: Please sign my petition demanding the TSA's screening procedures be in line with our Constitutional rights. I'll be teaming up with other organizations to get word out to Congress in an effort to change current policy: www.susiecastillo.net ORIGINAL POST: Last week I had a degrading TSA "enhanced pat down" that drove me to tears so I thought I'd speak up and encourage others to do the same. We can't sit back and watch the government take our rights away. These pat downs are a complete violation of our Constitutional rights. I was touched inappropriately and they're even making the elderly and children as young as 6 years old go through this. It has to stop! As a host and actress, my work requires me to travel often and I don't want to get assaulted (or irradiated by those body scanners) every time I have to fly.
