The latest research has revealed that Stonehenge was built in four different stages from around 3000 BC. Stonehenge consists of a number of stone circles, which are surrounded by a ditch and a bank. The solitary Heel stone stands outside the ditch and bank. The first circle inside the bank consisted of 56 holes, the Aubrey holes, named after their discoverer John Aubrey. The next circle consisted of a ring of vertical stones, so-called sarsen stone. Inside stood a ring of 60 bluestones and at the centre stands a stone circle in the shape of a horseshoe. Many stones such as the slaughter and altar stone have fallen down, but maybe they will be restored to their former glory one day. VisitBritain and Google are excited to announce the winners of the online poll in which the British public voted for the first tourist attractions to be photographed by the Street View Trike. After receiving over 10000 suggestions for locations we opened the top 16 landmarks up for voting. Over 35000 votes were cast showing the British public's passion for their local landmarks. The top 6 most voted for locations, plus a special 'wildcard' location, will get a visit from the trike over the summer and the images it collects will later appear in Street View on Google Maps (fingers crossed for good cycling weather).

The Dolmen Grove group and friends, process into the world-renowned Stonehenge megaliths, after circling the mystic monument three times. A late celebration of the Summer Solstice. Parts 2 & 3 show the welcoming speech, poems and thoughts of the participants during this event, using the Talking stick, that's followed by the procession from the Stones to the public entry point. One thing that I always like about these meetings is the great beat of those drums, and notice how the sound becomes so much clearer just after entry to the Stones, just sound reflection I guess but it maybe one thing to look at when Archaeologists continue to investigate the reasoning used by the builders of this great monument. This particular video is a little messy toward the end, but in the others to follow, wind noise is more of a problem. I hope you like this, I loved coming to it! The public are excluded from this event and from walking amongst the stones for most of the time. The reason given is for the preservation & protection of this monument. Tens of thousands of pairs of feet would certainly cause much damage. They are restricted to walking on a path around the monument. You can see many tourists in this video and those to come. Stonehenge was an unknown heavy metal band from New Zealand. They were formed in 1980 in Auckland and they released only the "Wings of Steel" 12" EP in 1986. Stonehenge also appeared with the track "Warlords" (later re-named to "Burnin' fever") on the "Attack from Down Unda" Compilation 1986. New Crop Circle near Stonehenge reported 9th of may. Not man-made, see A.Pyrka's field report below Crop Circle Authority researcher Andrew Pyrka' s field report It was Sunday 7th of July 1996 when the crop circle makers made a day light formation in the same field, almost 14 years ago !. The makers have returned to this location once again by making a giant 500 foot (exactly in length ) formation, lying close to the A303 but yet you wouldnt know its there. Directly opposite is Stonehenge which is patrolled by security throughout the night. When we arrived it was still dark and parked close to the perimeter of Stonehenge and without much delay torch light was soon beaming towards us. It is without doubt that these guys were very observant and soon questioned us if we had any intentions of JUMPING , this is a term used by them as frequent jumpers climb over the fence and run towards Stonehenge just to touch the stones. We in turn asked them if they saw or heard anything in the last few nights, they replied that they did not see or hear anything unusual and were unaware of the formation even being there. The makers once again have chosen a less mature crop but I think we can safely say that position and location plays an important part in their choice of delivering that important message to us all.
