Stingray TV intro (1964)
Gerry Anderson's third SF supermarionation saga told the adventures of the WASPs (the World Aquanaut Security Patrol) as they explored the oceans and kept the world safe from a variety of perils. The WASP's main weapon was Stingray, a super-sub under the command of Troy Tempest. Troy's copilot was Phones, and they were often joined on missions by Marina, a princess of the undersea kingdom of Pacifica.

Stingray Underwater Craft
UCSD students in the San Diego iBotics team got "cool points" for the team's eye-catching, sleek and biomimetic Stingray underwater vehicle. Designed to imitate the dynamics of an actual stingray, the Stingray placed 11th in an international competition last week organized by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). According to iBotics team president Gideon Prior, a Ph.D. student in electrical and computer engineering at the UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering, "We've kind of outdone ourselves making this biomimetic, hydrodynamic vehicle with really novel propulsion capabilities. It gives us a lot of cool points, but making it work has been kind of a black magic that we had to figure out. We started by designing the hull and choosing a novel propulsion system, and then went backwards and tried to figure out how to control the thing."
