"Crazy Shots" from The Steve Allen Show

[From "Kovacs Corner" on YouTube.com] - Steve was the original host of the "Tonight Show" from 1954 to 1957. By 1956, he was given a prime-time network slot on Sunday evening. With such a schedule, NBC decided to bring in Ernie Kovacs as the host on Mondays and Tuesdays to give Steve some relief. Here is an example of Steverino's self described "Crazy Shots", which appear suspiciously Kovacsian in style and execution.

Steve Allen - Archive Interview Part 1 of 11

Access all Archive of American Television interview segments at emmytvlegends.org Comedian/Host Steve Allen (1921-2000) described his transition from radio into television, working with writing team Madelyn Pugh and Bob Carroll on his prime-time radio show, The Steve Allen Show, and his first television appearance in 1949 as a wrestling announcer for ABC in Los Angeles. He fondly recalled hosting a multitude of Steve Allen Shows for television, and the classic Tonight with Steve Allen, as well as the creation and hosting of PBS' Meeting of Minds.

"Caldonia" by Louis Jordan on the Steve Allen Show from San Francisco, 1956

A rare TV appearance by Louis Jordan on the Steve Allen Show, 1956. Not the best quality, but enjoyable and historic nonetheless. And who knew Louis invented "Speed R&B".

Bill "Balloonman" Morrison on The Steve Allen Show #2 Part 2

This is part two of the second appearance that Bill made on The Steve Allen Show. It was so long that I had to cut it into two parts to fit under ten minutes. You balloon people out there will enjoy this one as it seems to mark an evolutionary leap in Bill's work with Balloon Things (BT). I knew a fellow who based his entire PhD dissertation on this one Allen Show appearance. I believe it was entitled, "The Evolution of Balloon Things: A Study in Breath Based Sculpture." Alas, he is now locked up in a high security mental instution in New Hampshire.

Steve Allen on The Tonight Show (Rare Clip)

This is the full version of the clip from the original incarnation of The Tonight Show, starring original host Steve Allen, that was used in Bill "Balloonman" Morrison's interview with Steve. It features a bizarre comedy bit with a walking/talking doll and a jaunty musical number entitled "Love Thy Neightbor" (Steve refers to the piano player as "Skitch," does that make him Skitch Henderson?). I will be happy to remove this clip if it conflicts with any copyright laws, but what I've been able to find seems to indicate it's okay to show.

The Tonight Show with Steve Allen - excerpt from EMMYTVLEGENDS.ORG

A long-running late night program, The Tonight Show was the first, and for decades the most-watched, network talk program on television. Since 1954 NBC has aired a number of versions of the show which has, as of the mid-1990s, seen four principle hosts: Steve Allen (1954-57), Jack Paar (1957-62), Johnny Carson (1962-92), Jay Leno (1992-2009) and Conan O'Brien (2009-?). In this his interview for the Archive of American Television, Steve Allen explains the genesis of the Tonight SHow, for which he was the original host, on NBC. for the entire interview with Allen, visit www.emmytvlegends.org The two-part interview was conducted by Henry Colman on November 25 and December 15, 1997.

Balloonman on The Steve Allen Show 1971

Another appearance of Bill "The Balloonman" Morrison on The Steve Allen Show (or just "The Allen Show," which is what I think this incarnation was known as). If my sources are correct, this one is from March 8, 1971. That's Pat Harrington (One Day At A Time's "Schneider") and (I think) Jane Meadows with Steve. As an added bonus, this clip is in living color. Wouldn't wanna miss one detail of that shirt Steve is wearing.

Cheyanne Schatz, "World's Greatest One-Man Band" Steve Allen Show 1963 1st Appearance pt 1

Cheyanne Schatz was the original "One Man Band". He had seven appearances on the Steve Allen Show. I am posting 3 episodes. This is the first and it is part 1. He had a different type of humor in the style of Andy Kaufman. Cheyanne counted Lenny Bruce as a fan. Cheyanne was invited on as a musical act, except it takes 20 minutes and he never plays a song. Enjoy this episode.

Steve Allen & Johnny Carson "Prank-Call" Jack Paar

One of my favorite moments in TV History is when Johnny Carson appeared on The Tonight Show with Steve Allen. Steve and Johnny decided to call Jack Paar's home phone and fool him. Tom Poston - Archive Interview Part 1 of 4

In his 4-part oral history interview, actor Tom Poston talks about his first television appearances, including his stint as a regular on the early soap opera, Hawkins Falls, Population 6200, which originated in Chicago. He chronicles his work on a local New York daytime show, which led to appearances on The Steve Allen Show where he memorably appeared in the "Man on the Street" sketches with Don Knotts and Louis Nye. He discusses his work with colleague Bob Newhart -- including his recurring role on The Bob Newhart Show, and his regular role as handyman "George Utley" on Newhart. Other topics include his original consideration for the lead of Get Smart (before the project changed networks nullifying his contract), his regular role on Mork & Mindy, and his relationship and marriage to actress Suzanne Pleshette. This Week in Horror - Edgar Allan Poe

Once upon a Midnight Dreary, while I pondered weak and weary, over many a dull and forgetful podcast..there was no tapping at the door just the sound of the eleventh episode of This Week in Horror celebrating the works of 'Americas Shakespeare' Edgar Allan Poe. Joining our hosts Matt Raub and Staci Layne Wilson in their Gothic exploration of the man behind The Raven are two people who know the work of Poe intimately. Actor Jeffrey Combs of 'Re-Animator' fame has literally had to get under Poe's skin to play him in the one man show 'Nevermore' which played to sold out audiences over a year ago. The good news is it's back and Jeffrey will be playing Poe once a month for the entire year at the Steve Allen theater in Los Angeles. Jeffrey discusses the complexities of Poe both as an artist and as a man and the challenges of playing the popular historical figure. Our second guest is largely responsible for bringing Poe into the popular culture with his colorful and atmospheric film adaptations of Poe's work, he is a recent Oscar winner and living legend of American cinema, the 'King of the B-Movies', Roger Corman. We delve into the origins of Corman's interest in Poe and how the gamble to make a costume period drama at the beginning of the 1960's paid off. As if this wasn't enough Poe infusion, our very own Staci Layne Wilson premieres the trailer for her own Poe adaptation -'The Key to Annabel Lee [A Woman in Triptych]'. Make sure you watch it now or Nevermore! For more ...
