Cold Steel Trail Master
A quick look at one of my favorite trail knives of the last 23 years, the Cold Steel Trailmaster. I bought it "used" in 1988 or '89 at a gun show in Nashville. Great knife. For the tree huggers out there, if you ever are lucky enough to own your own land and maintain trails and such for a period of years, you'll quickly learn that it's quite a job keeping limbs and weeds from growing into your walking trail. Yes, you have to actually cut limbs and make them bleed in order to prevent your trails from becoming "jungle" again. It's more the tick-laden limbs growing into the space where you walk than it is things growing up out of the ground that require the annual attention. Trails in parks are maintained by those in charge of the park or simply the hundreds of people walking the trails each day. On my own land, it requires the application of various evil cutting tools on a regular basis. When I go hiking, I often carry a knife like this, a tobacco cutting knife, or something bigger if it's my primary goal that day, to clear trails.

The IWA is probably Europe's most important annual weapons show. No hobbyists are allowed, except with a personal invitation by one of the exhibitors. Cold Steel was kind enough to invite The Slingshot Channel to the show! Meet Lynn Thompson, founder and president of Cold Steel, see him receiving his Jörg Sprave Hammerhead slingshot in cast aluminum. Lynn then gives a personal demonstration of his fighting skills with two huge Bowie knifes. All of the Zombie killing Cold Steel products are checked out at the booth. Cold Steel Voyagers: "Preparedness Blades" by Nutnfancy
I was not enthusiastic to hear that the lightweight and fast pre-2010 models of Cold Steel Voyagers getting re-designed. They have been favorite blades here in TNP, integrating easily into all preparedness systems. Luckily they're even better than before and I was happy to be wrong. In this review, I show all three of these newer Voyager models in depth: the XL, L, and Medium (plain edged clips, my favorite ones). After hard cutting and some batoning with the Large Voyager, I was not surprised to find still a solid locking knife. The Demko Triad lock is a winner again and it solidly places these Zytel handled folders in the hard use category. The stop pins on these models are large and solid in this lock design, taking the mechanical shock instead of the locking bart. The lockback spring is perfectly balanced and allows for some rather fast deployments, surpising for lockbacks sometimes. The cylindrical thumbstuds are another improvement as well, offering easy and fast access left or right. The full flat ground blades arrive sharp and the clip blade shape has great belly, a good tip, and a preferred stone washed finish. In cardboard cutting the AUS8A steel dulled but retained a usable edge (shown). The handles now feature a higher traction pattern, 6061 heat treated aluminum liners, and deep finger guards. Once a year every year i become a bike fan. Don't enjoy Superbikes or MotoGP but LOVE the TT. I'm a straight car motorsport head but just have mad respect for these guys.
