written and recorded by studio musicians Garrett Scott, Dale Frashuer, and producer/writer Paul Leka at Mercury studios in New York City. When it topped the charts, Leka put together a band called Steam and sent them out on tour in support of the song. In 1970, the "Steam" was let out of the band and the band disbanded. They left a legacy though that is still heard at sporting events worldwide whenever a team wins a game. Enjoy!

The "Pacific Northwest Portland Rose Heritage Tour" will begin on May 3 when No. 844 leaves Cheyenne, Wyo., and travels to Rock Springs, Wyo. Working Model of Stephenson's STEAM ENGINE made of GLASS ! Rare!
This Model of Stephenson's Steam Engine was made in 2008 by master glassblower Michal Zahradník. Highlights: * The crankshaft is glass. The piston is glass. The counterweight that makes the wheel spin evenly is glass. Imagine that everything is made out of glass. * There are no sealants used. All is accomplished by a perfectly snug fit. The gap between the piston and its compartment is so small, that the water that condensates from the steam seals it shut! * Notice the elaborate excessive steam exhaust system next to the piston. * The piston is the most arduous part to make due to to extreme level of precision needed. Its parts have to be so accurate that no machinery is of use here. The piston and its cylinder must be hand sanded to perfection, and they are very likely to crack in the process! On average, three out of four crack.

A Travel Air 2000 biplane made the world's first piloted flight under steam power over Oakland, California, on 12 April 1933. The strangest feature of the flight was its relative silence; spectators on the ground could hear the pilot when he called to them from mid-air. The aircraft, piloted by William Besler, had been fitted with a two-cylinder, 150 hp reciprocating engine. An important contribution to its design was made by Nathan C. Price, a former Doble Steam Motors engineer. Price was working on high pressure compact engines for rail and road transport; the purpose of the flight was to obtain publicity for this work. Following its unexpectedly favourable reception Price went to Boeing and worked on various aviation projects, but Boeing dropped the idea of a steam aeroengine in 1936. Price later worked for Lockheed where his experience with developing compact burners for steam boilers helped to design Lockheed's first jet engine. The advantages of the "Besler System" that were claimed at the time included the elimination of audible noise and destructive vibration; greater efficiency at low engine speeds and also at high altitudes where lower air temperatures assisted condensation; reduced likelihood of engine failure; reduced maintenance costs; reduced fuel costs, since fuel oil was used in place of petrol; reduced fire hazard since the fuel was less volatile and operating temperatures were lower; and a lack of need for radio shielding. How to Steam Bend Wood
Steam Bending Wood: First of all add hot water to the wallpaper steamer. Two pieces of wood for bending are already inserted into the chamber of the steamer. They are made to raise from the base and each other by placing a few small pieces off wood between them. The steamer is connected to the chamber and turned on. You will need an hour of steaming per 2.5 cm of thickness. I am steaming two pieces of one meter long pine, which are 1 by 4 cm thick. I would estimate about 60 to 70 minutes. The chamber is sealed quite tightly however the steam does condense into water within it. By turning the the chamber towards the ground, the pressure from the steamer will force any water out. When your time has passed, in a quick and smooth action, open your chamber and place the wood on the former carefully bending it into shape. Make sure to wear leather builders gloves as the steam is hot!

there is much coverage of the LNWR-designed G2 class 0-8-0 tender engines,the last LNWR class to survive in any numbers. These engines are contrasted with their lms-duilt successsors, the 8F 2-8-0s. Other types which feature in the film are Black 5s, Horwich Moguls , Fowles tanks, jinties, lvatt2-6-0s and serveral of the Bitish Railway Standard designs ranging from Britannia pacifcs to the class 4 Moguls. These machines,often work-stained and unkempt,are seen on a succession of coal and steel trains and long mixed freigths,traffic flows which have either deen shut down or nowaday go by road. Passenger trattic is not forgotten. LNS pacifics are seen at work on the main line and in one poignant sequence several of these magnticent machines are seen making their last journey to the scrap yard. The role of the Great Western in the Midlands is not overlooked. Branch lines such as that which once served Wolverton work parade forthe camera.Centred on Staffordshire, but with much of the footage drawn from train go by in the 1950s and 1960 and will be arevelaton of a lost age to those too young to recall those halcyon days.

The Durango Railroad Historical Society announced in March that they are restoring Durango's long-neglected narrow gauge 2-8-0, former Denver & Rio Grande Western No.315. This class C-18 Consolidation, built by Baldwin in July 1895, has been displayed at Durnngo since 1950 and is the only steam locomotive in town not owned by the Durango & Silverton. No.315 was originally Florence & Cripple Creek No.3. the Elkton, and in 1917 was acquired by the Denver & Rio Grande and became D&RG 425. After the D&RG merged with the Rio Grande Western in the early 1920s, No.425 was given its present number, 315, and worked out the remainder its life around Gunnison, Montrose, Ouray and Salida, Colorado. In the late 1940s No.315 was assigned to the Durango yard as a switcher, along with No.319. When larger power became available, both C-18s were retired on October 13, 1949, and No.315 was donated to Durango for display. No.319 was destroyed in a staged head-on collision on the Silverton Branch during the filming of the movie Denver & Rio Grande. Another C-18, No.318, survived the collision and is being restored at the Colorado Railroad Museum. No.315 was first placed on display in September 1950, and just five years later the 2-8-0 was borrowed to appear in the movie Around the World in 80 Days. Due to mechanical problems (reportedly a cracked or broken cylinder) No.315 was not under steam during the filming, but was pushed around with a motorized box car with smoke blowing out the stack ...

The Golden Age of Steam Trains Part: 01
This is one of the best train videos I have ever seen. They have a lot of footage of the history of steam trains from popular freight locomotives to streamlined steam locomotives. The narration is neat, and it is rather poetic throughout most of the video. The music composition is wonderful. The video quality may not be very good, because this was originally an old VHS with older video quality. This part of the video talks about how a steam engine works and about the early age of railroads.
