Originally a 1945 French song "Les feuilles mortes" (literally "Dead Leaves") with music by Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert, English lyrics were written in 1947 by the American songwriter Johnny Mercer. It has become a pop standard and a jazz standard in both languages, and as an instrumental. "Les feuilles mortes" was introduced by Yves Montand in 1946 for the film Les Portes de la Nuit.[1] The film Autumn Leaves (1956) starring Joan Crawford featured the song, which was sung by Nat King Cole over the title sequence. The French songwriter Serge Gainsbourg wrote "La chanson de Prévert" as a tribute to this song. The tribute added much color into the song.

For years I've rewatched his films MANY times and no films from any other director have affected me the same way Kubrick's have. Each and every film of his is an experience. Whether it be the spine tingling chills of 'The Shining' or the tear inducing laughs of 'Dr. Strangelove,' Kubrick's films always stick with the viewer. With this edition of 'The Works' I really wanted to channel what I feel makes Kubrick's films so special. So here you are, an extra long tribute that chronicles a lifetime of works from one of the greatest filmmakers who ever lived. Stanley, no one will ever make films as timeless as your own. (I apologize for the absence of 'Fear and Desire' I was unable to obtain a copy of it. But even Kubrick himself stated that he never looked on that film fondly. He saw it as merely a learning exercise). As for a for my next director tribute, I will not be giving out a hint this time. However, you can expect a sneak peek very soon! Stanford wins driverless car race
The Stanford Racing Team is Stanford University's response to the DARPA Grand Challenge. The Grand Challenge was an off-road robot competition devised by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) to promote research in the area of autonomous vehicles. The challenge consisted of building a robot capable of navigating 175 miles through desert terrain in less than 10 hours, with no human intervention. On October 9, 2005, Stanley and the Stanford Racing Team were awarded 2 million dollars for being the first team to complete the 132 mile DARPA Grand Challenge course in California's Mohave Desert. Stanley finished in just under 6 hours 54 minutes and averaged over 19 mph on the course. For more information visit cs.stanford.edu
