Musicians from around the world perform an amazing rendition of "Stand By Me" in the new PBS special PLAYING FOR CHANGE: PEACE THROUGH MUSIC. Playing for Change is a multimedia effort to unite musicians and vocalists from diverse parts of the globe while seeking to immerse audiences in a movement to inspire, connect and bring peace to the world through music. Using mobile audio/video units, technicians traveled the world, recording local musicians outdoors in towns and cities worldwide. In addition, musicians from all over the world are now brought together to perform benefit concerts that build music and art schools in communities in need. He is perhaps best known as the singer and co-composer of "Stand by Me," a US top 10 hit in both 1961 and 1987 and a #1 hit in the UK in 1987, and as one of the principal lead singers of the R&B vocal group The Drifters. King was born Benjamin Earl Nelson in Henderson, North Carolina and moved to Harlem, New York City, New York, at the age of nine. In 1958, he joined a doo wop group called The Five Crowns. Later that year, The Drifters' manager fired the members of the group and replaced them with The Five Crowns, who had performed several engagements with the Drifters. Nelson co-wrote the first hit by the new version of the Drifters, "There Goes My Baby" (1959). He also sang lead, using his birth name, on "Save the Last Dance for Me", a song written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, "Dance With Me", "This Magic Moment", "I Count the Tears" and "Lonely Winds". King only recorded ten songs with The Drifters, including a non-single called "Temptation" which was later redone by Johnny Moore. Ben E. I had to disable comments, lets just say people weren't happy heh. PLEASE READ I love Stand By Me, and I don't mean to disrespect it. Please don't be offended by this video. Try not to get stressed out, I mean no harm to this movie. I know directors make mistakes all the time its perfectly normal, I don't think there is one film without any mistakes in it. This movie is the greatest film I have ever seen, and I would no way try to insult it. My video is made for the fans who requested it and would like to see the mistakes. It was part of a stand by me website were the fans wanted to see the mistakes. It's only a bit of fun, so think such things as "Stop ruining a classic!". You really don't have to watch this video if it upsets you so much. Thank you very much. There was a lot of people saying I got parts wrong, this is just to clear it up :) HAMBURGER PART: If you watch the film, they say they haven't got any food so they gather their money and go to the shop. If you watch carefully... Gordie buys bottles of coke, and some meat, which the man at the counter weighs then covers in white packaging. He doesn't buy any marshmellows, so yeah thats just to clear that part up :) PS I made this video 3 years ago in the summer holidays, so it might not be the best video ever. I didn't spend all day searching for these mistakes, it was on a website.
