The Spira three-wheeler is a unique vehicle. It's one of the finalists in the Automotive X-Prize but its frugal fuel consumption and low emissions are only part of the vision of making it a car for the people. The Spira starts with a scooter, uses everything but the frame, and all those parts bolt into a foam composite tub to create a lightweight (137 kg) three-wheeled two-seater with immeasurably greater crash protection for the occupants. Gizmag.com's Mike Hanlon visited the Spira's home in Thailand to drive what inventor Lon Ballard hopes will become a machine for the people, and came away mightily impressed.

Here's a quick demo of my lovely Jack Spira Irish Bouzouki. Made in Australia back in '98. Tasmanian Blackwood back and sides, Sitka Spruce top. Ebony 'board, Mulga neck. Loaded with an AGA pick-up system. Guitar scale-length. I'm afraid I'm not much of a Bouzouki player but this demo gives those of you interested in Jack's workmanship an idea of how his Bouzouki can sound. Jack is an amazing builder and will work with you to create the right instrument for you. I would strongly recommend you have a chat to him, and/or visit him at www.jackspiraguitars.com .I know he will go out of his way to build you an amazing instrument. For twenty years he studied the teachings of PDOuspensky, J.Krishnamurti, Rumi, Shankaracharya, Ramana Maharshi, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and Robert Adams, until he met his teacher, Francis Lucille, in 1996. Francis introduced Rupert to the teachings of Jean Klein and Atmanada Krishnamenon and, more importantly, directly indicated to him the true nature of experience. His two books, The Transparency of Things, (sub-titled Contemplating the Nature of Experience), and Presence, in two volumes (The Art of Peace and Happiness and The Intimacy of All Experience), are a profound exploration of the non-dual nature of experience.
