Twilight Sparkle: Reading is Magic
Twilight Sparkle loves to read. And she's just so cute when she's at it! A passion for literature is something I share with this adorkable pony and so the idea for an automaton of her came to me rather easily. I can't say the same about Spike though, he seems hard at work lugging all those books! This is the second piece of my pony automaton series featuring characters from the show My Little Pony. Like the previous one, the characters and base (box) are hand-carved out of Philippine mahogany. The gears and books are made from Nara hardwood with the exception of the book page (that actually turns!) which is made from paper mache. All figures are painted in enamel and topped off with a flat lacquer clear coat. Lying down, Twi measures 3" high and 6" long. However the base is much bigger from before making total dimensions of 6 1/2" high, 9 1/4" long and 4 1/4" wide when Spike's stack of books pop out from the side. Background and music info in the description! This took longer than necessary. Each and every one of these trailers has 'something', 'Race' has my first use of graphics, 'Play' has chroma-keying and this has extensive colour grading. Plus, most importantly, an effort to tell more of a story instead of throwing random images at the viewer. These two problems I solved, only they were not quite the giant leaps I had taken between 'Race' and 'Play' and I felt unsatisfied during much of the editing until finally realizing that this installment is actually fairly awesome and creating most of it together in a span of mere hours.
