The tour grossed up approximately $100 million and all profits were donated to various charities including the new Heal the World Foundation that was set up by Jackson. Yanni is a self-taught pianist who began his musical career by giving recitals for family members though he had no formal training and could not read music. He was also a competitive swimmer in Greece and set a national record in the 50-meter freestyle competition at the age of 14. At the age of 18 he attended the University of Minnesota. While a student there, Yanni joined an up-and-coming local group called Chameleon where he met drummer Charlie Adams. Chameleon earned some modest commercial success touring throughout the Midwest, particularly in the states of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and South Dakota. After receiving a BA in psychology, he sought a life in music. He moved to Los Angeles, in pursuit of movie soundtrack work. Hello everyone, Just sending out a message to let you all know that my cd "return of the mother head's family reunion" is out in Japan. The first day of the cd's release it charted at number 9 on the international charts which im very excited about. The cd will be available at richiekotzen.com as well as i tunes in mid October. Also I am currently preparing for a string of live shows starting in September. I will be headed to South America performing in Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. From there we will head to Europe and will play shows in Italy, Spain, and Russia among other countries. There will likely be a warm up show or 2 in Los Angeles prior to leaving for South America. The waltz "Sobre las Olas" (or "Over the Waves") is the best known work of Mexican composer Juventino Rosas (1868--1894). It "remains one of the most famous Latin American pieces worldwide," according to the "Latin America" article in The Oxford Companion to Music. It was first published by Rosas in 1888. It remains popular as a classic waltz, and has also found its way into New Orleans Jazz and Tejano music. The song remains popular with country and old-time fiddlers in the United States. Rosas was born in Santa Cruz de Galeana, Guanajuato, now renamed Santa Cruz de Juventino Rosas. Rosas began his musical career as a street musician and playing with dance music bands in Mexico City. Most of Rosas's compositions—among them "Sobre las Olas" ("Over the Waves") were issued by Wagner y Levien and Nagel Sucesores in Mexico City. In the late 1880s, Rosas is reported to have been a member of a military band. In 1894 he went for a several-month tour to Cuba with an Italian-Mexican ensemble, where he came down with major health problems and had to stay behind in Surgidero de Batabanó.
