1/16/2012 -- 'Strange sounds' heard WORLDWIDE -- what is it?!
Montreal video was UPLOADED to youtube on January 11 2012 -- clearly with leaves on the trees.. not from Jan/2012 . here is the link www.youtube.com Kiev video at the end is from 2011 it would appear.. again uploaded on Jan 11 2011 . If you spot anything else that stands out as "odd" for being January 2012 --- let me know in the comments.. is this some kind of copy-cat effect going on here? 1 hoax multiplied maybe? Or is it the real deal?! Im on the fence. Something strange is afoot for sure --- unknown sounds heard globally over the past few days.. basically starting up in rapid pace on January 11, 2012 --- up until today (jan 16 2012). I don't know how long this will continue, or what it is. What different sorting algorithms sound like
This particular audibilization is just one of many ways to generate sound from running sorting algorithms. Here on every comparison of two numbers (elements) I play (mixing) sin waves with frequencies modulated by values of these numbers. There are quite a few parameters that may drastically change resulting sound - I just chose parameteres that imo felt best. After making this video I found that someone already tried to audibilize sorting algorithms: www.pillowsopher.com - he mentions other older attempt: www.math.ucla.edu And someone in comments metions similar attempt on different aproches to Towers of Hanoi problem in 1982; there was also attempt on trying to hear minimax search in chess engine in 2009: www.krazydad.com . This is my first attempt on making algorithms audible. For some time I was wondering what would it sound like if cpu made different noises for different instructions. It all started while trying to play raw files (texts, images, programs...), then I heard few "raw" tracks on Alva Noto CD... and then I did one strange audio-visual simulation vimeo.com and then I tried to play out voltage potentials simulated by spiking neural network implementation - it worked out really cool so I wanted to try something with algorithms - thats how I got here. I know this work is not novel but I feel it isn't explored enough. Get Audacity and play! audacity.sourceforge.net Correction: it is the "Basilar" membrane, which is what I say, but somehow between recording the script and actually drawing the stuff I got confused and thought I just pronounced my Vs poorly. Always sad to have such a simple and glaring error in something I put hundreds of hours of work into, but a "Vasilar" membrane can be the kind that a Vi draws to explain Viola Vibrations, I guess! Making up new words is just so prolightfully awstastic. Props to my Bro for excellent and creative swing pushing, and to my Mamma for filming it.
