Walking Mount Snowdon Via The Pyg & Miners' Track. Snowdonia, North Wales.

The Pyg and the Miners Tracks start at the same point. The car park here gets very full, and an early start is essential. It is not known how the Pyg Track got its name - it could be as it passes over the Pigs's Pass (Bwlch y Mocl), because it is close to the Pen y Gwryd Hotel, or because pyg, in welsh, also means pitch, and part of the surface of the path looks like black pitch. Whatever the origin, this path starts 1170 feet above sea level which gives you a helpful start on the way. Much of this walk is rugged, and very challenging, but the scenery is interesting. The first part of this video shows views from the Pyg Track during the ascent to the summit. Once past the Pigs's Pass, the view down to the left shows the Miners' Track below. The Miners' Track is a good walk to try if you want to walk on Snowdon but don't want to try to reach the summit as the first part is fairly gentle. Views from the descent using the Miner's Track are featured. It was built during the 1800's to serve Britannia Copper Mines which were abandonned in 1917. Mine Manager Arthur Lockwood drove his car to Llyn Glaslyn, and the track to this point at the lake still resembles a road so is a good walking surface. The track does get considerably steeper towards the summit but was fairly easy on our descent.

Extreme camping in Snowdonia

A short film about the horrors we faced after stupidly deciding to set up camp on a mountain in Snowdonia. As we arrived back, half the campsite was already in ruins. We luckily escaped with our tents and possessions but some were not so lucky. Any questions or anything, just leave a comment (or mail me)

Snowdonia Walks - a riverside walk in Betws-y-Coed.

Find more info at www.walesdirectory.co.uk - or read on. Snowdonia Walks - a riverside walk in Betws-y-Coed. Several of Snowdonia's rivers merge in the beautiful holiday resort of Betws-y-Coed. This walk starts from Pont y Pair in the centre of the village and continues through the Gwydir forest on the banks of the River Llugwy. A wooden boardwalk makes it suitable for both wheelchairs and prams. However kids will be kids and a scramble to play by the waters edge is still favourite. From the tree tops of the tall Scots Pines to the tiny lichens and fungi on the forest floor, Gwydir Forest is a place of wonder. The short walk offers the opportunity to continue through open meadowland to the famous Swallow Falls, or just to play on the banks of the beautiful River LLugwy. Bale Wrapping in Snowdonia

Great little farm baling, collecting and wrapping bales all in one. Nice day, sperb scenery and everything right. MF 135 and 5445 collecting, Ford 6710 and McHale wrapping, JCB loading and Lamborghini with Welgar doing the baling.

Silaging in Snowdonia - Baling.

Great little farm with wonderful family, kind and friendly. Baling by contractor, carting by MF 135 and a neighbour with his MF 5445. Watch the bigger Fergie extricate a bale from the ditch - skilled caution! McHale stationary wrapper, Lambo on Welgar RP220 baler, JCB loader and Barry on the wee 135, hurtling about and doing twice as much as the others put together! (well, nearly). Nearly forgot, Ford 6710 on the wrapper, remotely controlled by the JCB driver.

Harlech Castle - Snowdonia

Join Archaeologist & Historian James Balme as he pays a visit to Harlech Castle, Snowdonia, North West Wales and enjoy the breathtaking views from the castle across the Welsh landscape. The castle was constructed for King Edward I between 1283 and 1290. Edward's tried and tested 'Walls within Walls' model was put together in super - fast time by an army of nearly a thousand skilled craftsmen and labourers. Edward liked to use only the best masons from Savoy and Ireland and England's finest carpenters and blacksmiths. At the time of construction this was one of the cheapest of Edward's castles. A snip at a mere £1890. The structure, overseen by Master of the King's works, James of St George, boasts two rings of walls and towers, with an immensely strong east gatehouse. It was impregnable from almost every angle. Its secret weapon was a 200 foot long stairway which still leads from the castle to the cliff base. Why not pay a visit of your own to see this magnificent castle in its full splendour and glory and soak up the historic atmosphere of Snowdonia and West Wales.

Tiger Beetle, Snowdonia National Park

These lovely little critters are not only powerful predators (with large jaws that will take on pretty much any other insect it comes across) but also some of the fastest running invertebrates. I had trouble keeping up with its movements! This spot seemed to be a particularly good place for them, with at least 3 or 4 other adults flying and running about within a few square metres of each other.

Snowdonia Trip 2007

Badly edited/filmed video of Snowdonia, North Wales, UK. Taken from October 2007 on our annual climbing/walking break. Unfortunatly Youtube only allowing a 10 min video meant I had to butcher the original version, ruining the soundtrack (Ethnicolor Part 1 - JMJ), pretty much the worst sin possible to cut a Jean-Michel Jarre track like this. The cloud was low all week, so I didnt get any decent shots from the top of the mountains.
