Shihab Thangal Interview - Part 1
Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal (1936 - Aug 1, 2009) was the president of the Kerala state committee of the Indian Union Muslim League. Shihab Thangal was a member of the Thangal family which claims itself to be descendents of the prophet Mohammed. Shihab Thangal was born as the eldest son of Panakkad Pookoya Thangal, who was a renowned Islamic leader of Kerala. He did his schooling in Calicut and subsequently went for higher studies on Islam in Tirur. In 1958, He moved on to Egypt for futher studies and obtained a higher degree from Al Azhar University in 1961. He continued his studies in Cairo University and pursued a Doctorate in Arabic Literature in 1966. He was appointed as the president of the Kerala state committee of Indian Union Muslim League subsequest to his father's death in 1971. Shihab Thangal remained President until death.

Sabu Martinez & Sahib Shihab - Arroz Con Leche
A rare meeting between percussionist Sabu Martinez and reedman Sahib Shihab -- both American players, but working here in a really unique European setting! The tracks are filled with great percussion from Sabu -- that legendary groove he first laid down on Blue Note and Alegre albums years back -- handled here in a more open, searching sort of way, with a range of great percussion effects in the mix -- thanks to the presence of some additional percussionists as well. Sahib Shihab plays both sax and flute -- blowing lines that fall into the more exotic side of his talents -- quite different than his straighter jazz work, and a great reminder that he can really have a deep conception, when heard in the right setting. Overall, the sound is quite spare -- heavy on percussion, with a bit of bass -- then giving way to reeds from Shihab -- and titles include "Nus", "A Memo To Art Blakey", "The Distorted Sioux Indian", "Ghandi's Candies", "Arroz Con Leche", and "Sondagsbladet" -- which is a bonus trio track from 1967, featuring sax from Christer Boustedt instead of Shihab.

Shihab Shahriar, a 7 years old little & cute angel is suffering by Blood Cancer for the last 2 & half years (The news also published in a newspaper of Bangladesh named "Amar Desh" on 8th August, 2008 and also telecasted on in a TV channel named ATN Bangla. He is the only child of his parents. This cute and smiley little angel even don't know what's happened to him. He is now in "National University Hospital of Singapore" for better treatment. The good news is he will survive properly as the doctors confirmed but he needs to transplant his bonemarrow before 25th of this month. Ahmed Shihab-Eldin: Will Social Media Democratize the Arab World?
Al Jazeera English's Ahmed Shihab-Eldin's new show, The Stream, which debuts today, has an ambitious goal: Shihab-Eldin wants The Stream to "leverage voices who often don't make it into mainstream media" by engaging wired communities across the world. Shihab-Eldin spoke with The Nation at the 2011 National Conference for Media Reform in Boston about how he was one of the few in the media who began to follow Tunisia before it was clear a revolution was unfolding. He talks about how the uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa all began as "popular uprisings," not religious uprisings. And, he adds that his new show will take a bottom-up look at many of the ongoing uprisings and examine how social media is helping people circumvent oppression. Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal, a great politician and Islamic scholar, breathed his last at a private hospital in Malappuram, Kerala on August 1. He was admitted to the hospital after he slipped and fell down at his home. The death was said due to cardiac arrest. He was 73. Born on May 4, 1936 in Malappuram, Kerala, as the eldest son of Panakkad Syed Ahmed Pookoya Thangal, who was a renowned Islamic leader of Kerala, Thangal had his primary education at the MM High School, Calicut. He continued his religious education at Thalakkadathur and Kananchery Dars under Ponmala Moideen Musliar. In 1958, he left for Egypt for further studies and obtained his masters degree in the Arabic literature from Jamia Al Azhar in 1961. He continued his studies in Cairo University and pursued a Doctorate in the Arabic Literature in 1966. After spending about eight years in Egypt he returned home in 1966. Thangal could establish good relationships with world leaders while his stay in Cairo. His colleagues included prominent statesmen from different parts of the world. With a mastery over English, Arabic and French, Syed Shihab was offered posts in Saudi airlines and Egyptian embassy, but he refused them. Shihab Thangal was appointed president of the Kerala state committee of Indian Union Muslim League subsequent to the death of his father PSMA Pookoya Thangal in 1975.
