Sound engineer of this famous mono mix was Keith Grant. The design is just so simple and yet the illusion is so amazing. This illusion has been around for a long time but always in the form of an image. It was created by MIT professor Edward H. Adelson. I wanted to take it from a flat piece of paper and turn it into a real, life sized illusion that I could interact with to demonstrate the effect. The illusion works because of the "shadow" that falls on the checkerboard. Lets think of the square that the shadow falls on. Now picture that the shadow doesnt exist, you would see a light colored square surrounded by the dark colored squares. But when the shadow falls on top of that light colored square, the shadow causes the shade to become darker but it also causes the surrounding darker squares to become darker. So within the shadow region the brightness and darkness of the squares are still relative to one another. But they are no longer relative to the squares that lie outside of the shadow. So if you ...

This song is about the execution of Paul Bogle (ca. 1820 -- 1865) a Jamaican Baptist deacon and is a National Hero of Jamaica. He was a leader of the 1865 Morant Bay Protests, which agitated for justice and fair treatment for all in Jamaica. Leading the Morant Bay rebellion, he was captured and hanged on 24 October 1865 in the Morant Bay Court House and executed by the United Kingdom authorities. He is depicted on the heads side of the Jamaican 10 cent coin. His face was also depicted on the Jamaican two dollar bill. However, this bill is no longer used in Jamaican currency. The Paul Bogle High School in the parish of his birth is named after him. King Curtis - A Whiter Shade of Pale From Album - Live at Fillmore West In 1970, King Curtis appeared with Aretha Franklin and The King Pins on Aretha Live at Fillmore West, and another record, Live at Fillmore West, which included a version of "Memphis Soul Stew" and covers of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love", Isaac Hayes' "I Stand Accused" and Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours". The line-up for these performances included: Hammond organ player Billy Preston, bassist Jerry Jemmott, guitarist Cornell Dupree, Pancho Morales (percussion), drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie and The Memphis Horns. A cover of Procol Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale" was taken from this album. Around midnight on August 13, 1971 Curtis was lugging an air-conditioning unit towards his brownstone apartment on West 86th Street in New York City when he noticed two junkies were using drugs on the steps to his home. When he asked them to leave, an argument started.The argument quickly became heated and turned into a fist fight with one of the men, 26-year old Juan Montañez. Suddenly, Montañez pulled out a knife and stabbed Curtis in the chest. Curtis managed to wrestle the knife away and stab his assailant four times before collapsing. Montañez staggered away from the scene and Curtis was taken to Roosevelt Hospital, where he died from his wounds less than an hour later.
