In case you did not see my previous server room video here is an update to the old video: www.youtube.com In this update video you will see that we moved part of our server infrastructure around in the server room, as we are planning to move this equipment within the next 60 days to a new server room with better air conditioning and better power conditioning. This old server room is very noisy and gets very hot and does not have space to grow, The new server room alone is costing $50000 for the air conditioning and power configuration alone. Our DSL line is a 10 Mb high-speed internet connection, We have 12 servers, of which you only see 8 servers here. The other servers are in other locations due to lack of space. There are 3 Mac servers, and the other 9 are Dell brand running Windows 2003 servers. They run specialized functions such as providing DNS, DHCP, print server, file server, mail server, data-backup, data base server, Mac Services, web server, ad/domain controller & ad backup, restore images. In addition, we are installing a wireless controller and new WAP access points to cover 6 floors and gigabyte network switches, with a total cost of over $150000 so it is not cheap. By now the Cult of Rapture server has made its rounds on the internet and gotten all of the attention it well and truly deserved. However, back when I first set the minecraft server up, most of us hadn't caught wind of it yet, so we set about making Rapture on our own. We were not trying to precisely duplicate Rapture. Given that the build server regularly hosts 30+ people, trying to precisely recreate a game that some might not have played didn't seem like a worthwhile endeavor. What we did, instead, was try and retain the flavor of Rapture, while still enjoying the process of making our own original creations. Obviously, this means we have structures that did not exist in the game - such as our giant Surface Recreation Dome, which is one of the main hubs of the city. With that said, we're still tremendously proud of our accomplishments so far, so we put this video together to celebrate our current progress. I just want to emphasize that all of the construction on the map is done by hand. Nothing was editor'd in. Will Personal Servers Be Replaced by Cloud Computing?

Cloud services are becoming more reliable and affordable all the time, and the idea of keeping a personal server may seem less appealing and more of a hassle than it's worth to some users. One area where personal servers do have an advantage is in terms of privacy and security. When you manage your own data from stem to stern, it's easier to manage who has access and in what way they have access. Are personal servers going away? Not yet, but cloud computing solutions could very well be more appealing to the average consumer. Today we were given two IBM servers, one big crazy server, and a "Mini" server, we could be using the system x3400 (Big server) as our main server, i call the System X3400 a "Super Computer" because it has 3GB of DDR2 RAM @800MHz, 2x Intel Xeon 2.00GHz dual core processors, resulting in 8GHz total cpu power, and 4x 150GB 15000RPM sata HDDs in Raid mode (Total Capacity 587GB) The System x3200 is for messing around with, as you can see in this video, it has an Intel Xeon dual core (1 physical cpu) @1.8GHz, which would still out-perform a core i3 today!

My Home Server Room Update Again
i have recently got 2 more new server racks and have put a little order to them. Only got six of them to fit on the one side wall so the other one is sitting in my garage. Bought another ibm server because i really do like them and wanted to have a spare. Downfall was i had to add longer network cables and that really makes my fingers sore untwisting the wires and separating them to fit in the rj45 jacks for that many machines. my home server room and repair area. I have a total of 11 server racks with the ML series and DL series of hp servers and some misc ones i have built. I have 3 servers that are setup as an RIS server and WDS server. Two servers do video for my 25 security cameras around the house and others run web services and ftp services. Some are setup up with many hard drives that hold computer images for clients computers that i work on part time. One server also records my tv shows and sends them up to my television upstairs. My small network rack has 3 24 port switches that ties in with 4 other 16 port switches located in other parts of the house. I use 10 - 4 port belin kvms and 2- 8 port kvmsto reduce the number of keyboards mice and monitors needed. It adds about 2500.00 a year to my electric bill I guestimate. If you can afford the servers you can afford the electricity for those that keep asking.
