Scupper Pup kayak cart for sit-on-top kayaks
Bought this in the spring and really like it. I like to set up my kayak next to my car and then transport it to where I plan to launch--this kayak cart is great for that purpose. It inserts into the scupper holes of your sit-on-top kayak and is pretty stable that way. I use the rear scupper holes because it's closer to the end than the front pair. My Hobie scupper hole repair
I describe how I repaired a tear in one of the scupper holes in my Hobie Outback Mirage. The tear was caused when I was loading my Outback onto my Escape Hybrid and the boat slipped back with the cart still in the scupper holes. I repair the tear inside the hull by gluing two halves of a PVC pipe to the outside of the scupper holes and clamping them down with hose clamps. I expect this will fix the tear and reinforce the scupper holes at the same time. UPDATE - the fix worked great and the hull was dry after 6 hours pedaling and trolling for salmon.

Epic V10 Sport Scupper Bullet Test #2
Same as the previous video + a new version of the bullett is now tested. Some comments are added. If you see this video, no need to see the other one. Comparison of sucking force with and without a bullet. I first started the test with a bullet that was a little fatter than the one here. It was still smaller than the vent cover but it still did not work well at all - the suction with the bullet was worse than without it. Then I reduced the dimensions of the bullet to what you see in the video and now there was some improvement: both in the suction force generated as well as in reduced turbulence behind the scupper vent cover. I might play a bit more with different shapes yet to see if I get any better than this. As it is, adding this bullet increases the force of suction by about 25% (eyeballing it from the higher water level in the clear tube) and visibly reduces the turbulence (by looking at the thread patterns). Not sure how this translates to in-water performance: have yet to try it. My first test some weeks ago was in the water with a bullet of size and shape that today I saw did not work at all and actually decreased the suction - on the water that same bullet did exactly the same: reduced the effectiveness of the drain. So I am hopeful that my new shape will work better in the water since it works better in the air Will see about that soon enough... If you're going to go to Westport, Washington, you may as well go for its annual Rusty Scupper Pirate Daze, when all the pirates come out to play. There are games, vendors (with those hard-to-find tricorner hats and puffy shirts) and lots of delicious food (Habitat for Humanity is always there with the elephant ears).
