McAlpine Construction was given the contract on a time and materials basis which meant there was no restriction to the final cost which amounted to £3.5 million. Most of the factory was built by hand. Drag lines and basic diggers which had no cabs or hydraulic rams, were also used. Over 3000 men, the majority of them Irish, were used in the building and labouring. The Irish navvies stayed in wooden huts, which were later used to house prisoners of war from 1943 to 1947. It took 8 miles of high security fencing to surround the site, which was made up of two identical halves, so as to prevent production being interrupted if a key building was hit and put out of action. Cordite and nitro-glycerine were the main products manufactured. These highly dangerous products were hauled around by unshod horses and carts, supplied by farmers, to prevent any sparks which might have sent the place sky-high. The place is now used for police and army training at times. We take the Free Hugs campaign all around Scotland. After discovering a version of the Free Hugs video that some people did in my local city, I thought it might be fun to take it all over Scotland. I filmed the guys in Aberdeen and we went on a long day trip to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth. We witnessed exactly what Juan Mann experienced, the police asked us to leave but the public stood there and defended us. The music was written especially for the video by me, James Provan (GiR2007). Prince Charles Turns Scotland TV Weatherman
Television audiences watching the weather forecast in Scotland received an unexpected surprise on Thursday (May 10) as Britain's Prince Charles delivered the local weather report for the region. Dressed in a dark suit, blue shirt and striped tie, Charles looked like the perfect professional as he gestured towards the map behind him, describing the wet and cold conditions in store for Scotland over the coming days. The move comes as part of the prince's attempts to appear more accessible and less aloof to the general public. His wife, the Duchess of Cornwall also tried her hand at being a weather girl. Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall are visiting Scotland as part of their annual Holyrood Week, visiting the BBC's Scotland office as it celebrates 60 years of broadcasting.

ANONYMOUS Intercept FBI & Scotland Yard Conference Call #FFF Hacking network Anonymous has released a recording of a conference call between the FBI and UK police in which they discuss efforts against hacking. The conversation covers the tracking of Anonymous and other splinter groups, dates of planned arrests and details of evidence held by police. Anonymous also published an email, apparently from the FBI, showing the email addresses of call participants. The FBI confirmed the intercept and said it was hunting those responsible. "The information was intended for law enforcement officers only and was illegally obtained. A criminal investigation is under way to identify and hold accountable those responsible," it said in a statement. British police at Scotland Yard said they were working on a statement. A comment on one of the Twitter accounts linked to Anonymous, AnonymousIRC, said: "The FBI might be curious how we're able to continuously read their internal comms for some time now." The Glasgow Necropolis is a Victorian cemetery in Glasgow, Scotland. It is on a low but very prominent hill to the east of Glasgow Cathedral (St. Mungo's Cathedral). Fifty thousand individuals have been buried here. Typically for the period only a small percentage are named on monuments and not every grave has a stone. Approximately 3500 monuments exist here. Predating the cemetery, the statue of John Knox sitting on a column at the top of the hill, dates from 1825.
