Contemporary satsang teachers in the West - frequently coming from the Advaita Vedanta tradition - sometimes mix traditional Eastern knowledge with methods of modern psychology. During a satsang with a master, students are likely to ask questions. Satsangs also may contain elements like lectures, meditations, singing and recitations.

Paramahamsa Nithyananda continued his series on the Siddha Tradition with the topic Parakaaya Pravesha or astral travel. He reluctantly used the word astral travel, as there really isn't an English word to explain this phenomenal concept. He said it is more important to just understand the concept of one's soul entering another's body. There are four levels of moving from one body to another used by the siddhas: 1. Person having a body entering a dead body. There are two categories: a dead body that had life or a dead body which never had life. Rituals must be performed on these bodies to clear them before a soul can enter. 2. Person having a body entering a living body. Mediums fall into this category. An Enlightened being is radiating at a high frequency. If you offer your low frequency ego, it slowly gets melted and that medium slowly melts into the body. Energy starts reflecting in that body. It is a very powerful thing. That person becomes a medium. Paramahamsa Nithyananda gave a stern warning over this practice. Sometimes black magicians use a person's ego to penetrate and use the body to destroy other bodies. It is a terrible suffering, war of destruction. This fellow uses his strength of ego and enters into that body by destroying the mind of that person. Paramahamsa Nithyananda stressed this is most dangerous; neither can be encouraged or allowed. Living Incarnation and Avatar Paramahamsa Nithyananda explained in today's morning discourse that the Sanskrit language is created to keep the eternal truths alive for generations. Up until the last sutra, Patanjali was explaining the 8 limbs of yoga in Ashtanga yoga. To summarize: Yama - understanding about law and the power that executes the law. Niyama - raising the coherence to the cosmic consciousness. Asana - aligning the body for the cosmic experience. Pranayama - aligning and elevating the life energy in your system, through the proper processes. Pratyahara -- withdrawing from the senses. Dharana -- centering on the great truths. Dhyana -- merging with the cosmic experience. Samadhi -- completely experiencing the non-return zone, the space where you don't get separated or come back. The quality which you need to add to move from pratyahara to dharana, is the sacred secret: honesty to the identity which you believe as you. What ever commitment you take, be honest to it. If you are not able to be honest to all, at least prioritise and be honest to the few you can. Maintain your life with a clear balance, any identity you have assumed, take complete responsibility for it. If you are not able to take responsibility, renounce, give it up. Honesty to the identity moves you from pratyahara to dharana because controlling the mind is not like controlling a bunch of monkeys. The mind can't be shut down if it's put in a cage or prison. Mind is so vast, for it to be shut down ...

Siddha Tradition: Sleep state - Nithyananda Morning Satsang 24 Nov 2010 Message Day 10
Today Paramahamsa Nithyananda continued his series of discourses on the states of consciousness as outlined in the Siddha Tradition. Yesterday he explained Jagrat-Swapna, which means awake physically but dreaming mentally. Today's subject Jagrat-shushupte, wakeful sleeping, a state of complete memory loss of information due to total lack of awareness and concentration. Swamiji predicted our response, 'oh it is an extraordinary disorder, it will never happens to us.' He was adamant, ' Whenever I ask if you did what I give you this instruction you say no you never gave. You are in that state.' If you don't remember getting the instruction, you are in Jagrat-Swapna. If you say you never got the instruction at all, you are in Jagrat-shushupte, wakeful sleeping. There is another danger humanity suffers, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It is like seepage happening in a huge dam. When a dam seeps there is a danger, same as when your sleeping state seeps into waking state. If seepage grows, increases beyond particular level then all maintenance people will be shaken and release water because seepage gives warning dam may break. In the same way seepage of deep sleep state into waking state and dream state is a warning that any moment your mind can break. You need to release all unnecessary engrams and samskaras. You can't stay in this state, it is dangerous. The technique for breaking this is to sleep for two hours midday, between noon and 2 pm. Do this for 21 days which is one cycle ...
