Along with this DVD, a double-CD album was released, G3: Rockin' in the Free World. The DVD was recorded at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, on October 20, 2003. Despite the name on the DVD case, when played the title that appears on screen is "G3: Live From Denver" rather than "G3: Live in Denver". iPad GarageBand (Satriani) Always With Me, Always With You Cover
Here's my cover of Joe Satriani's classic done entirely on iPad Garageband and the new features from the 1.2 update. All played instruments are native to the app. The added features like the note editor and within song key change expands the usability of this app greatly. Now, you have access to the guitar's whole range by transposing notes which made this cover possible. This song has a major to minor key change so this was almost impossible with the old version of GB. It is now viable to play any guitar part but it requires a bit of editing work as you could see on this video. Most of the edits I did on the guitar track are for the vibrato and the octave transpositions. It is hard to get a consistent vibrato in real time because of the touchscreen. Also, although I'm playing along in this video, the actual guitar track was recorded in parts and some tricks were used. The video is just to give you an idea where the notes are and how I played them. Key is B Major/ Minor Time Sig: 3/4 Tempo: 147 BPM Scales used: None, B Major, B Minor, B Pentatonic Major Main Guitar Sound: Hard Rock with Vintage Drive 2nd Guitar: Roots Rock with Hi-Drive and muted (Finger on the "Nut") Picked Bass Acoustic Guitar Organic Bells Classic Drum Machine Large Hall Reverb Ambient Delay I hope this will give you ideas for your iPad GarageBand noodlings.

www.premierguitar.com PG's Rebecca Dirks is On Location at the Chicago Theatre, in Chicago, IL, where she catches up with guitarist Joe Satriani before his 'Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards' Winter 2010 tour. In this Rig Rundown segment, Satriani walks us through all the gear and equipment he's using during the tour. Also, he talks about how this rig differs from the one he uses with supergroup Chickenfoot. For his effects, Satriani uses a Vox Satriani Big Bad Wah Wah, Vox Satriani Ice 9 Overdrive, Vox Satriani Satchurator Distortion, two Vox Satriani Time Machine Delays, a Voodoo Lab Proctavia, a DigiTech Whammy, and a custom true bypass switch built by amp guru Ben Fargen (Fargen Amplification and Sonic Edge Effects). For his amps, Satch is using three Marshall JVM410 heads that have been converted into working prototypes for a future signature Marshall head that should be released sometime in 2011. The heads are based on a JVM410 format, but each one has been tweaked and altered throughout his current tour. And for his guitars, Satriani has been using two different Ibanez signature models--the JS1000 and the new JS2400. All of his Ibanez guitars are loaded with DiMarzio pickups. Me playing one of my favourite guitar instrumentals, a mix between live version and album version. Guitar: lefty JS1200 Amp: Marshall 2061 2x12 cab with 2061x head Pedals: Mad professor Red Fuzz, Boss DD7 Delay Update: A couple of people asked me to put detailed settings for the tone I used in this track, so here they are: 2061x head: patched low input on lead channel to high input on bass channel with a short patch cable (if you look closely you can see it in the video) Settings for Lead channel - tone: 5.8 vol: 1.5 Settings for Bass channel - tone: 6 vol: 1.8 Pedal settings: Fire red fuzz - tone: 5 fuzz: 6 Delay - level: 5 feedback: 2.5 d.time: 3.8 mode: 800ms I also added a bit of reverb in the sequencer in post-processing, used Perfect Space with Blues Club Far preset. All of this was recorded with SM-57 trans-mod, into Neve 1084 preamp, into Prism 8XR.
