Sand Flea is an 11-lb robot with one trick up its sleeve: Normally it drives like an RC car, but when it needs to it can jump 30 feet into the air. An onboard stabilization system keeps it oriented during flight to improve the view from the video uplink and to control landings. Stop Motion Sand Sculpture
I made these pieces at El Segundo and Manhattan Beach here in Los Angeles. The time-lapse sculptures typically take around 2 hours. The stop motion ones usually take 6-7 hours. I usually don't use any tools when I work. The music is from the 2000 LTJ Bukem album Journey Inwards, the song is called Watercolours. Synopsis : Rajkumar Shamsher Singh is the only son of the local Maharaja, and has been brought up as a brat, and now he is an irresponsible, alcoholic, and womanizing adult, who wants everyone to bow down before him and his princely rank. One priest refuses to do so, and Shamsher pummels him mercilessly, in vain though. Frustrated, he asks the priest what he should with his mundane life, and the priest tells him that he should repent, sacrifice all his palatial pleasures, and live the life of a simple and ordinary man, and hence learn the true meaning of life, for at least six months. Shamsher agrees to do so, and arranges an accident with his car, which crashes down a mountain, explodes and is blown to smithereens. Everyone in the palace believe that Shamsher is dead. He goes to a nearby village, and a blind woman there mistakes him for her long-lost son and starts calling him Sajjan Singh. Shamsher decides to play along as Sajjan, and lives with her. Two corrupt palace officials spot Sajjan, and notice his similarity to Shamsher, and conspire with him to pose as Shamsher for a hefty sum of money, to which Sajjan agrees. When he accompanies the officials back to the palace, he is shocked to find that his father has re-married a much younger woman, Ratna, and shortly after marrying her, has passed away, leaving the palace and it's management to her and her greedy brother. Shamsher decides to reveal his true identity, but the officials threaten to expose him to his new ...

Christchurch Earthquake Showing the sand liquefaction process with vibration
Thank you to the 575000+ people who have viewed this clip. It was only intended to show to a few friends what we were living upon and what came out of the ground in our recent series of earthquakes. Never in my life did I imagine it would go viral and get so much attention.. Thanks Again. .Hopefully this will help explain what Liquefaction is, and how it occurred during the earthquakes in Christchurch , New Zealand. Digging out the sand that was brought to the surface and deposited via Liquefaction and wheel-barrowing it out to the roadside. Watch how the saturated sand, under vibration, takes on the characteristics of a liquid ( it doesn't change to a liquid, but behaves like one) and then returns to a solid state once the movement ends. This is what happened in the earthquakes of Sept 4th and Feb 22nd in Christchurch New Zealand and results in instability under buildings and causes them to move or, ultimately, collapse.
Magic sand / Moon sand (hydrophobic sand)
This is normal sand coated with a hydrophobic material that repels water, so this sand will never get wet. This was originally developed to clean petroleum from sea water because the sand can mix with the oil and it sinks, instead of staying in the surface of the sea. But that sand is too expensive to produce so its used as a toy. Its used in some Artic areas too because Magic sand never frezes. This was a gift from a friend (oscar8777b in youtube). Booming Sands
Sand on a dune possesses energy in the form of gravitational potential energy. The greater the height of the sand dune, the more gravitational potential energy the sand on top has. When the sand on top of a steep dune is disturbed, it slides down the slope, and gravitational potential energy is transformed into kinetic energy. It is this kinetic energy of the falling sand that produces the booming sound. As the sand particles bounce against each other, some of their kinetic energy is transformed into acoustic energy -- or sound, waves of vibrations transmitted through a medium.
