Second session on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Finally let me pass after 1-3/4 laps. Both the BMW driver and I are advanced, high-performance driving instructors. The RX-8 is completely stock except for a B&B muffler and Hawk HP Plus pads on the front. It does not have traction control or stability control. Tires are original stock street Potenzas. No doubt the M5 is stock too, and this has more to do with weight than horsepower. Camera is a Creative Labs Vado cheapcorder stuck to the windshield with a suction cup cellphone holder. Video was recorded upside-down due to the mount, and was transcoded to rotate it. Quality suffered.

The Mazda RX-8 is, simply put, one of the most pure sports cars currently being sold. At just over 3000lb., it is incredibly agile and will stack up handling-wise with anything you can think of. Like most 'handling-first' sports cars, its acceleration is not devastating. It's the only passenger car to use a rotary engine, a 1.3L wonder of smoothness and revs, delivering 232 horsepower at 8500 rpm and spinning all the way past 9000! It's a bit short on torque, with just 159 lb.-ft at 5500 rpm. But for those who like this kind of driving experience, that won't matter. Other quirks are a high appetite for fuel, and Mazda's own recommendation that you check the rotary's oil level...every time you fill up the gas tank! It's nicely packaged, though, with real seating for four adults, suicide doors to access the rear seats, and plenty of storage and a rear-seat pass-through. At $33055 as tested, it's unlike anything else on the market. Turbocharged Mazda RX-8, day at the dyno
rotaryinsider.com Finally brought her in for dyno tuning. I just wanted a conservative tune that was safe across all RPM ranges. A few months later I found out the fuel pump filter was clogged up. When the filter was changed, the tune from this dyno session ended up being way too rich. So I think another 20 whp would be easy to get out of the car without any other changes. BTW the greddy turbo doesn't flow enough air for the engine (this turbo kit was designed for 6 psi boost, and I'm running it almost twice that). Assuming there is a 15-20% drivetrain loss on the rx-8, that puts me at 312 - 326 hp with a very conservative tune with that clogged fuel pump. Car is running with standard 93 gas. MAZDA RX8 with LPG Conversion
This is our Mazda RX8 which has been converted to run on LPG. Without this conversion we would not have been able to afford to keep the car. It covered 35000 miles last year alone! It was converted at 57000 miles and has now covered over 100000 (January 2012), We achieve around 150 miles per tank, it is a 50 litre tank which will hold 40 litres of LPG. It will start on petrol then switch over to LPG when ready. It's been 100% reliable. The conversion was carried out by Hardy's Garage www.hardysrecovery.co.uk using an 8 cylinder Eg@s kit and a modified ECU. There is a slight reduction in road tax but only a measly £10 per year!

RX8 Bedford Crash
I manage to crash my Mazda RX8 at end of main straight on Bedford Autodrome South+West combined circuit. After a really good braking zone, I mistimed the gear-change, causing the car snapped right and inevitably into the Armco barrier :-( Though it looks like I simply drove it in there, which definitely was not the case! I think the last comment just about sums it up!

RX8 ordered June 4th, 2008 ..4 Months Later.. RX8 arrival: September 21st, 2008 Plan: Surprise everyone making them think that the car, parked in a lot, is some random person's car. JackDUD is the camrecorder, and yes he does know. After a few minutes of everyone checking out this "random guy's" car, they agree to leave before the "owner" comes.. But eman has to get his phone before they leave.. NOTE: Understand that I worked a number of jobs since i was 17 to be able to afford my car, so it's not that my friends are going nuts for seeing a "Mazda".. its because they understand how bad i've wanted it for so long, and that I was finally able to get it. I kept it a surprise when I ordered it and was extremely excited to surprise them with my achievement.

2004 Mazda RX-8 1.3L Rotary Engine Start Up, Quick Tour & Rev With Exhaust View - 84K (7500RPM Rev)
2004 Mazda RX-8 The RX-8 has a 1.3L Wankel Rotary Engine which makes an impressive 197 HP while paired to a lame 4 speed auto. When it comes to an RX-8 of this year, best opting for one with a 6MT which also the engine is tuned to deliver an additional 41 HP (238 HP total) Its impressive that an engine of this displacement can deliver so much power. But these rotary engines are by no means fuel efficient. MPG's are comparable & sometimes worse to that of a V8. Interior is a weebit cramped, few mechanics out there specialize in repairing these engines if it ever needs servicing, & overall reliability of the RX-8 hasnt been great. I would much rather go for the much simpler MX-5 IMO.
