Gloucester Rugby 29-23 Harlequins - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 16 | 25-02-12

Gloucester run goes on with win over Quins Two tries from full-back Ross Chisholm were not enough to help stuttering Harlequins as the Aviva Premiership Rugby leaders slumped to defeat at Gloucester. Quins will be kicking themselves back down the motorway after they had Gloucester in trouble a few times in the second half but could not get the tries to recover from an early setback. Wing Charlie Sharples, full-back Jonny May and flanker Akapusi Qera grabbed Gloucester's tries, with fly-half Freddie Burns booting four penalties and a conversion. As well as Chisholm's tries, Quins' other points came from fly-half Nick Evans' boot with three penalties and two conversions. After Saracens' surprise loss to Worcester on Friday night, Harlequins were left kicking themselves with the knowledge before kick-off that victory at Kingsholm would open up a nine-point gap on their London rivals. But they started the match in the worst possible way to go 10 points down after as many minutes. It was former England winger James Simpson-Daniel who became a real thorn in the Quins' side during those early stages. Just moments after Burns had booted a monster 49-metre penalty to give the home team the lead, Simpson-Daniel almost got a try when he dashed downfield only for an excellent tackle to bring him down just short. However, set free on the right, the flyer superbly dummied the Quins defence to put Sharples in for a converted try. Evans added to the 159 points he has scored this season ...

Mike Brown - Harlequins | Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month

12thJanuary 2012 - Mike Brown of Harlequins has been voted the Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month for December. The Harlequins' full-back was chosen as the month's stand out performer by a panel of distinguished rugby media - including writers, broadcasters and photographers. "Mike has reinvented himself this year and turned himself into a world class player who we believe will deservedly make his Test debut in this year's RBS 6 Nations," said Panel Chairman Paul Morgan. "He exemplifies the reasons why Harlequins sit on top of the Aviva Premiership Rugby table and the award is our way or showing how impressed we have been with Mike's form." Brown spoke of the pride he felt for being named December's Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month: "I am so happy to receive this award from Aviva. It's a great time to be involved with Harlequins. I couldn't have found my recent form without the constant help and support from my teammates and the Quins coaching staff, they have all had a massive influence on me over the past few months and I'd like to thank them all. "Aviva have kindly donated £500 to the charity of my choice - and I've chosen Macmillan Caring Locally. The reason I have chosen this charity is because my Gran recently passed away. Before she passed on, she asked for people to donate to the charity, instead of buying flowers for her funeral, as it was a charity that she supported. So in memory of her, I would like to donate to Macmillan Caring Locally ...

Any negative comments pertaining to any matters outside of the RWC or this video will be removed. Please keep it clean for younger audiences. The Call - (or known as a Karanga to Maori people) is an official welcome given by Maori women or a woman in this case. The Maori people believe that "a woman's voice is a powerful thing...she is the giver of life. Her karanga calls us from the darkness of Te Po (the night) and takes us into Te Ao Marama (the world of light). Her energy unlocks the pulse of life. The karanga is enhanced by 'moko' patterns - the spiritually powerful tattoo designs shown as "vibrations of energy" which are etched into the faces and bodies [and souls] of many Maori" as is the mana (prestige and identity) that everyone is born with. The karanga was composed (with Taiaha Hawke) and given by Precious Clark. Her karakia (prayer) is to the chiefs and champions of Aotearoa (NZ) who sound the Pukaea (wooden trumpets) to gather together the people of the nation before extending the call to the rest of the world. The Karanga: [Translation from Tim Worrall] Karanga te po, karanga te ao, karanga nga hau e wawara mai e The darkness calls, the ...

Bath Rugby 46-14 Northampton Saints | LV= Cup Official Highlights -28-01-12

Bath in pole position for home cup semi-final Bath shook off their mid-winter blues with a 46-14 win over Northampton that puts them in pole position for a home semi-final in the LV= Cup. Northampton, missing 10 players to England and the second-string Saxons, were well in touch until the last quarter but were then blitzed by three tries in seven minutes from Olly Woodburn, Stephen Donald and Charlie Beech. Earlier tries had been scored by Ross Batty and Anthony Perenise - a spectacular sprint by the Samoan prop from nearly 40 metres, while Olly Barkley kicked 21 points. Saints' points came from a try by prop Alex Waller and three Stephen Myler penalties. Bath were missing just four players on England duty. Nick Abendanon, who was not included in the final Saxons squad, started at full-back and hooker Lee Mears was released from the senior camp to sit on the bench. Northampton gave full-back Paul Diggin his first start since October 8th, with Myler and Martin Roberts recalled at half-back. Bath sniffed an opening on the left early on but Abendanon was brought down just short of the line. Saints threatened briefly at the other end before Barkley opened the scoring with a 40-metre penalty in the eighth minute. Given another more difficult chance, Barkley saw his effort strike the bar. The onrushing Tom Biggs was quickest to the ball but tripped over an outstretched leg. Although referee Sean Davey judged it unintentional he took a harsher view of Myler's marginally high ...
