Here are some answers to questions people keep asking me: - the ringing ball comes out of the red flipping box. - the painting tilts, which causes the top ball to run down it. - a keen eye will notice the egg unravels out of its foil wrapping. - at around 1:52, the balls are rolling behind a sheet of glass that is at a slight angle so that the balls have to revolve a lot just to move a small amount. - it took about 6 months to make and 3 days / 200 takes to film. Much credit must be give to the amazing Pitagora Suicchi ones for all their original ideas!

Purdue Rube Goldberg Machine claims Guinness World Record
The 2011 Purdue University Rube Goldberg machine shattered the world record for most steps ever successfully completed by such a machine. In 244 steps the "Time Machine" traces the history of the world from Big Bang to the Apocalypse before accomplishing the assigned everyday task of watering a flower. A friend and I decided to spend a night at my workplace assembling a contraption using supplies from the supply room and my basement. We started at 11p.m. on 6/26/05, and finished around 5:30a.m. This is take eight. Six of the eight worked. UPDATE: Thank you for all the views, everyone! The team won first place in the national Rube Goldberg competition held at Purdue University on March 31. The team won first place over Purdue University, University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M, Penn State University, University of Cincinnati, Hofstra University and Washington State Community College. The College of Technology students incorporated such items as a toy train, a Slinky, a jack-in-the-box, dominoes and a hobby horse, among other items, in a 345-step process to make freshly squeezed orange juice, thereby setting a world record and beating out previous record holder and four-time defending champion Purdue University to win the annual competition. 'The Falling Water' - cocktail making machine

I made it in the garage at our Flat. Made by me (Joseph Herscher). Filmed by Rewa Wright. For those who don't have access to such a machine as this, here is the recipe for the drink: - 30mls (1Oz) 42BELOW Feijoa Vodka - Ch'i or Lemonade - Long slice of seedless cucumber - Ice Cut a long thin piece of cucumber on a diagonal. Rest it against the inside of a Highball glass. Fill the glass with ice, add 42BELOW Feijoa. Top with Ch'i or Lemonade.
UW-Stout 2011 National Rube Goldberg Winner
The 2011 National Collegiate Rube Goldberg Machine Contest winner the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The task of their machine is to water a plant. The UW-Stout team's machine entitled "The Westing Estate" takes 135 steps to complete this task and includes a church, mine shaft, gazebo, gardens, water pump and water wheel, two catapults and about two dozen steel ball tracks.
Simple Rube Goldberg Machine II
Since so many people ask, the game at the end is called Snafu in the US and Screwball Scramble in the UK from what I hear. Another "simple" Rube Goldberg machine, but this one is a bit more complex than the previous. It wins a game of Snafu. I guess people could say I "cheated" by using electricity to power on of the cars, but I have done that with most of my non videotaped machines. Anyways, the steps are below: 1) Insert marble into top of wood block marble game. 2) The marble hits some dominoes with just enough force to topple them. 3) The dominoes his another marble which rolls and skids down a Scrabble board. 4) That marble hits another defective marble with a semi-flat bottom (which is how it is balancing on a downhill slope) and bounces it off down a ramp made of scrabble boards. 5) The marble hits dominoes which ascend with the help of wood block "stairs." 6) The domino at the top hits a cylindrical block which slides down what is meant to be used as a marble slide. 7) The block hits a bridge which has a marble just barely held on by friction and moves it just enough to overcome the friction and descend down the bridge. 8) The marble enters a plastic marble game and exits through a ramp at the bottom. 9) The marble is transfered to another ramp and hits more dominoes at the end. 10) The dominoes hit a toy car/train that goes down a ramp and hits a running electric car. 11) *CHEATER ALERT* The car uses electric power to climb up and around a track before falling ...
Simple Rube Goldberg Machine IV
Not my best machine but it involves some new ideas. Camera work also leaves more to be desired but you can see the steps. This machine was supposed to go bowling but it only knocked down one pin! I think it's kind of funny so I won't redo it. This was my most reliable machine, it only took three tries to work! Here are the steps: 1)I put a marble in a wooden marble game and it slides down and moves a screw. 2)The screw is pulled by a magnet and hits a wooden marble block with a marble on it. The marble falls in and knocks down a domino on the way out. 3)The dominoes fall down and then hit a toy train (which has been in all my machines so far) and moves a wooden block. 4)The block goes over a track made for a marble and moves to knock down some dominoes. Those hit another one of those marble blocks and a marble falls in. 5)The marble travels down a track and hit some dominoes which make a 90 degree left turn and make another marble go down the track. 6)That marble hits a domino with another marble which ricochets off. This is repeated to gain momentum. 7)The marble nicks the bottom of a sideways domino which falls down and sets off a chain. One domino hits a stick with a holes with a screw in the middle and rotates it to hit some more dominoes. 8)The dominoes knock down a wooden block which falls upon a train which rolls down a track. 9)The train hits another stick which rotates to hit another. The second stick then moves an upwards facing stick back releasing a screw to ...
University of Wisconsin-Stout wins 2010 Rube Goldberg contest
A team from the University of Wisconsin-Stout won the 23rd annual Rube Goldberg Machine Contest on Saturday (March 27) at Purdue University. Wisconsin-Stout located in Menomonie, was competing in the national competition for the first time. The team's machine was called "Valley of the Kings" and had an Egyptian theme, telling a tale of events following the death of King Tut. www.purdue.edu

How to Make a Rube Goldberg Machine (Read Description)
This video was made for yoshifan125. It was a little awkward for me to make a video like this. I know my voice is boring and its a long video but just keep watching, there are some great tips (for beginners). It gets better towards the end. If you just want to see some examples of cool ideas then skip to 7:53. If youre making a project for school you obviously need to follow the guidelines and you will probably need an easy objective, for example the pulley system could pull a Kleenex out of the box for you and maybe you could even start the machine with a sneeze right into card/paper dominos (I know that's crazy but it could actually work). My Top 3 Tips: 1. Be creative, but limit creativity (If that makes any sense). Don't try anything too crazy or the chances of your machine failing will rise. You should DEFINITELY use the most creative events at the beginning of your machine. At the beginning, theres more room for error because if the first thing doesnt work, you only have to reset one step then you can retry it. 2. Take your time. For beginners, a good Rube Goldberg Machine should take at least a couple days. Don't rush through it. When you spend more time, ideas will eventually pop into your head and you will also have more time to make your machine more accurate and test it. Also you can expect it to take a lot of tries to get it to work. 3. Be accurate. I dont really know how to fully explain this tip, but for example, you cant just expect a marble to knock down a ...
