Darrel Higham - Rockabilly Guitar
This was supposed to be a follow-up to the Rollin' & Tumblin' solo, but I sort of rambled on and ended up playing loads of my favourite rockin' solo's!! Its terrible editing and I talk a load of nonsense but I feel its a broad look at Rockabilly playing in general and have decided to upload it here to see if it helps any of you out that have stumbled upon this with a new interest in the music. Or even if you know the music well but get stuck on a few things every now and then. This video might help out, or it might not. But I haven't done much of this sort of thing before and so I'm making it up as I go along! The songs played - in no particular order, in keeping with the general vibe of the video - are as follows; SWEET LOVE ON MY MIND - A brief look at Grady Martin from his work with the great Johnny Burnette & The Rock 'n' Roll Trio. GOOFIN' AROUND - Frannie Beecher's magnificent playing with Bill Haley on this wonderful instrumental. BIG SANDY - By Bobby Roberts. I've no idea who played lead guitar on this, but I'd love to shake his hand if he's still around. TEENAGE BOOGIE - The Webb Pierce track, much loved by all who've heard it. A sort of absent-minded version here, but you'll get the jist of it... ROCKIN' & FLYIN' - A little bit of the solo Eddie Cochran plays in an out-take that hasn't been released yet but I've got on a CD that has all the known takes of it. BLUE JEAN BOP - A token effort at some Cliff Gallup. HOT DOG - A great solo from Shakin' Stevens first ...

Rockabilly Bassist "Slick" Joe Fick
If you've spent any time on Memphis' famed Beale St. in the past few years, chances are likely that you've seen or at least heard of one of Bluff City's best known and most entertaining bands; a "high octane" Rockabilly trio known as The Dempseys, made up of Joe Fick (Upright Bass) Brad Birkedahl (Guitar) and Ron Perrone (Drums). In addition to being stellar musicians individually, the group delivered hours of awe-inspiring performances that included countless variations of instrument swapping and effortless instrumental gymnastics that had to been seen to be appreciated. View the Joe Fick interview only at Bass Frontiers. www.bassfrontiersmag.com/rockabilly-bassist-slick-joe-fick

The guy miming is Paul Burlison, Original Trio Guitarist who got together with Johnny and Dorsey not only at the gym ( Paul and Dorsey were Welterweight and Johnny was a Lightweight) but also at Crown Electric.... How to Play Mystery Train Rockabilly Guitar Scotty Moore
This is a "how to" video for playing finger picking style mystery train riffs on guitar. I learned it off a Danny Gatton instructional guitar tape from the early 1980's. I show how to pick it slowly then how it should sound at a faster pace with a mish mash of built for speed by setzer thrown in for yucks.

Lee Rocker - Rockabilly Slap Bass
Since the 1950, when the Memphis-based rockabilly sound first swept the world, the acoustic upright bass has remained its showpiece and rhythmic mainstay. Lee Rocker, one of the masters of the "new wave" of rockabilly musicians, has made an informative and entertaining DVD that teaches the intricacies of the exciting slap bass style to players of all levels. Slap bass combines the plucking of the bottom notes with the percussive hits that the palm makes when it slaps the strings against the fingerboard. By adding these right-hand techniques to blues bass lines and arpeggios, you'll create spectacular multi-rhythmic slapping that will stop any show! This DVD also provides valuable tips on amplification, bass set-up and other methods of getting the best possible sound. Big Blue's hot performances of Goin' To Kansas City, Big Blue Train, That's All Right Mama, The Hucklebuck and Find Another Man illustrate how rockabilly slap bass techniques sound in the context of a live band performance.
