American producer Rob Tapert talks to NZ On Screen about hearing that New Zealand was an undiscovered production treasure in a studio carpark and he discusses the internationally popular syndicated TV programmes that hes brought here (Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules) that have helped realise that vision. These productions were instrumental in building the skill base of the NZ cast and crew. Many NZ actors found fame through their characters, particularly Lucy Lawless (now married to Tapert) and Michael Hurst (Iolas in Hercules). Tapert talks about his beginnings in the industry: dropping out of grad school in Michighan (where, Hollywood might as well have been as far away as New Zealand) to make films with long time business partner and Hollywood director, Sam - Evil Dead, Spider-Man - Raimi. ***READ DESCRIPTION*** **Episode List at the Bottom** This is my first Xena video, and I wanted to do something to show the everlasting bond between Xena and Gabrielle. Like the TV show, this video can be left up to interpretation as to whether they are simply best friends or more than that. I chose the song "Awake and Alive" by Skillet because I think this is a song that directly correlates to these two characters. Whenever one of them is feeling lost or weak, the other pulls them back up to full strength. The quotes were worked in to show the progress of not only their friendship, but also their growth as people. Video Flow: There really isn't a set storyline to this video. Like I said before, it is just to highlight their friendship. The video is basically split into 3 parts: It starts with Gabrielle, growing into her own from being a little farm girl from Potodeia, and then switches to Xena changing from a bad-ass warrior to a woman with a loving heart. The third part is completely about the two of them together. But you don't need me to tell you all that. You can see it in the video!
