1988 Don Rickles delivers a monologue on "Bob Hope's 50 Years at NBC"
Don Rickles appeared on many Hope specials during the 1970s and 1980s. Along with George Burns and Jonathan Winters he was Hope's go-to guy in a pinch. Here he delivers a scathing indictment of Hope's career and even thanks Dolores personally for showing up. Hey, he's Don Rickles! Hope had turned 85 years old in May 1988 and NBC marked his fiftieth year with them -- radio and TV combined. So, despite the Writers Guild strike which was ongoing at the time, a gigantic 3-hour party was staged at the NBC studios in Burbank. The guest list read like a Who's Who of show business and the entertainment combined live performances with clips of scenes from Hope's films, his hosting the Academy Awards and past TV specials. Live guests Included Lucille Ball, George Burns, Milton Berle, Steve Allen, Sammy Davis, Jr., Leslie Uggams, James Stewart Marie Osmond, Curt Cameron, Reba McEntire, Jay Leno, Jonathan Winters, Ann Jillian, Betty White, Danny Thomas, Tony Randall, Bernadette Peters, Shecket Green, Olivia Newton-John, Bea Arthur, Linda Gray, Barbara Eden, Florence Henderson, and a host of others. You can read all about the how Hope worked with his guests and his writers and what happened behind-the-scenes of these classic Bob Hope video clips by reading my book "THE LAUGH MAKERS: A Behind-the-Scenes Tribute to Bob Hope's Incredible Gag Writers," chosen a "Top 20" 2009 Year End Pick by Leonard Maltin who says... "Having spent twenty years writing for the indefatigable Bob Hope, and ...

Don Rickles presents Pudgy.mov
An Early Curtain for Pudgy By David J. Spatz Posted Mar. 20, 2008 Pudgy called in a panic. The loveable insult comedian was thisclose to signing on with Joe Scandore, who knew a thing or two about managing insult comedians, because his biggest client was a guy named Don Rickles. Scandore had heard of Pudgy's no-holds-barred nightclub act and had seen her 1983 Showtime special, which she taped in front of an audience loaded with TV sitcom stars of the '70s. But Scandore had never seen Pudgy work live, although that was about to change. It was the summer of 1985, and Pudgy was working a series of midnight shows at the Atlantis Casino Hotel. These "gypsy" shows had quickly become popular within local entertainment circles because they attracted cast members from many of the casino production shows, especially the boys-who-would-be-girls from An Evening at La Cage at Bally's. As luck would have it, Rickles was working Resorts, which meant Scandore would be in town. He wanted to see Pudgy work live. "I need your help tonight," Pudgy told me. "Can you come in?" Pudgy -- her real name was Beverly Wines, but her birth name was a Polish mouthful, like Wisniewski -- knew that I would sit ringside and offer a safe and easy target. In spite of her growing reputation, people who saw her for the first time sometimes didn't get the nature of her act. Not everyone would be willing to play along with her good-natured teasing, and that could be a problem with a career-maker like Scandore ...

Las Vegas Backstage Now with Comic Michele LaFong: Don Rickles, Cody Collins Thursday Mar. 22nd
Comic Michele LaFong interviews Don Rickles and Cody Collins on March 22nd, 2012 VISIT lasvegasbackstagenow.com Thursday, 22 2012 on KNUU 970AM in Las Vegas 6 pm - 7:00pm Comedy Legend / Actor / "Mr. Warmth" - Don Rickles Celebrated entertainer and Las Vegas legend Don Rickles brings his one-of-a-kind comedy back to The Orleans Showroom Rickles took his first step toward national fame in 1957, when Rickles spotted Frank Sinatra in the audience at a nightclub in Miami Beach. The still-unknown Rickles eyed Sinatra and said, "I just saw your movie, 'The Pride and the Passion,' and I want to tell you, the cannon was great. Make yourself at home, Frank. Hit somebody." Sinatra, whose pet name for Rickles was "bullet-head," enjoyed Rickles so much that he returned to see him when he was performing in Los Angeles, and encouraged other celebrities to see his act. Rickles soon became the "in" comic among Hollywood stars, who flocked to see him to become a target of his insults. Sinatra's continuing support helped Rickles become a popular performer in Las Vegas, where he first started in 1959, and has been a headliner ever since. In addition to keeping live audiences laughing, Rickles' still-growing television and film resume includes roles in "Casino," "Kelly's Heroes," "The Rat Race," all three "Toy Story" films, HBO's "Tales From the Crypt," TNT's "The Wool Cap" and Bravo's "My Life on the D-List" with Kathy Griffin. In 2011, he made a surprise appearance in a "cliff-hanger ...
