Dozens more were injured when the World War Two-era plane slammed into a box-seat area in front of the main grandstand. The injured have been rushed to hospital. Out of 56 people hurt, 15 are said to be in a critical condition. Mike Houghton, president and CEO of the Reno Air Races, told a news conference that pilot Jimmy Leeward had died in the crash, Associated Press reports. The 74-year-old veteran Hollywood stunt pilot was the owner of the Leeward Air Ranch Racing Team and a well-known racing pilot. Leeward's "Galloping Ghost" plane was a P-51 Mustang fighter -- a class of plane that can fly at speeds in excess of 500 mph (800kph). Houghton said there appeared to be a "problem with the aircraft that caused it to go out of control".

Terrifying new video of Reno Air Show Crash
New video emerged on Monday of a deadly crash at an air show in Reno, Nev., last week as the toll from the accident climbed to 10 after another hospitalized victim died late on Sunday, The Associated Press reported. The video was shown as part of a segment on NBC's "Today" show and captured the fearsome descent and terrifying impact of the plane, a World War II vintage P-51 Mustang fighter, as it smashed into the ground adjacent to the crowd on Friday. In the clip that was shown on NBC, the gray belly of the plane can be seen from below as it dived toward the camera. The footage is among several videos of the accident captured by spectators taping the show. Amateur videographers also captured a second crash at an air show in Martinsburg, W.Va., a day later. That crash, which killed the stunt pilot, occurred far from the spectator stands, and there were no casualties on the ground. As my colleague Jesse McKinley reports from Reno, investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board who were examining debris from the crash in Nevada found a box containing a memory card believed to have recorded information about the plane's final moments. The Associated Press published raw video of the crash site over the weekend as the investigation continued. The site was left mainly as it was after the accident, giving an uncanny and mournful appearance to the scattered debris and silent mountains.
