What is a Rave Like
I went to Electric Daisy Carnival 2010 (Also known as EDC 2010) last night, and must say it was the best party I've ever been to! So much to see, do, and AMAZING music! My favorite set was performed by Infected Mushroom. Fantastic music and performance. Deadmau5 had good music, but his performance was disappointing for being the headliner. One of the best things about EDC was that it was a combination of a sorta rave mixed with a carnival, so there were plenty of free rides and deliciously bad for you fairground food. There were colorful lights decorating the entire place, and huge statues made of what looked like bronze that were also shooting FIRE. Everyone there was friendly and fun, the girls dressed HOT, and it was just a great time. I witnessed no douchebaggery whatsoever, other than the dumb girl who ran into me and knocked over my $8 chicken terriaki out of my hands after I only had 2 bites. Sadness. Big thanks for TayZonday, Diego, Joe, Brooks, and everyone for hanging out with me and making this event one of the most awesome events I've been to in my entire life! Buddy Holly - Rave on! (1958)

Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and JP "The Big Bopper" Richardson, was killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, when flying from one city to the next on their "The Winter Dance Party" - tour. In 1971 Don McLean wrote 'American Pie' as a tribute to Buddy and rock n roll music. Holly's music was sophisticated for its day, including the use of instruments considered novel for rock and roll, such as the celesta (heard on "Everyday"). Holly was an influential lead and rhythm guitarist, notably on songs such as "Peggy Sue" and "Not Fade Away". While Holly could pump out boy-loves-girl songs with the best of his contemporaries, other songs featured more sophisticated lyrics and more complex harmonies and melodies than had previously appeared in the genre. Many of his songs feature a unique vocal "hiccup" technique, a glottal stop, to emphasize certain words in any given song, especially the rockers. Other singers (such as Elvis) have used a similar technique, though less obviously and consistently. Examples of this can be found at the start of the raucous "Rave On!": "Weh-eh-ell, the little things you say and do, make me want to be with you-ou..."; in "That'll Be the Day": "Well, you give me all your lovin' and your -turtle dovin'..."; and in "Peggy Sue": "I love you Peggy Sue - with a love so rare ...

Originally recorded at Bell Sound Studios in New York Jan 25, 1958 - Written by Sonny West and Bill Tilghman this went on to be a major hit in the US and even more so in the UK. It was one of three Holly tunes to chart at the same time in the UK unheard by today's standards. Original backing musicians were JI Allison (drums) and Joe B Mauldin (bass), Norman Petty (piano) and Al Caiola and Dominic Arnone.
