The Haunted Airman
Adapted from Dennis Wheatley's novel The Haunting of Toby Jugg, this is the chilling tale of a troubled young man who returns from the war only to face new terrors. Flight Lieutenant Jugg, confined to a wheelchair after being wounded in action, arrives at a remote mansion in Wales to recuperate. Suffering terrible nightmares and visions, he suspects the methods of his psychiatrist, Dr Hal Burns. This brilliant acoustic album from the legendary multiple Grammy Award-winning composer, guitarist, and leader Pat Metheny is a perfect easy listening album. After nearly 40 recordings under his name, this marks the first time there is not a single Metheny composition represented. Rather, "What's It All About" comprises 10 classic songs, some very well known, that hold personal meanings for the guitarist. Metheny recorded the songs on "What's It All About" late at night, in his New York City home over a short period of time. In selecting which ones to put to tape, Metheny says: "I wanted to record some of the music that was on my radar before I ever wrote a note of my own, or in a few cases, even before I played an instrument. I was born in 1954 and all of these songs were in the Top 40 during my childhood and early teen years. It was a period when harmony and melody were still important and viable elements in popular music. Every one of these tunes has something going on that is just hip on a musical level, no matter how you cut it. They have all stuck with me over the years". Pat Metheny - Understanding
Pictures of my favorite season...Autumn. I put these fall photos from North Carolina to music--the music of my favorite musician, Pat Metheny. This song, "Understanding," can be found on his 2 CD Special Edition of the album, "Secret Story." The CD was first released in July 1992, then it was remastered and re-released as a 2 disc CD in September 2007. The 2007 version also contains 5 previously unreleased songs. This song, "Understanding" (mislabeled on the CD as one of the other new tracks "Look Ahead (F Csus)", is one of those unreleased cuts. I only recently discovered these new Metheny songs...and I LOVE THEM. This one in particular has become one of my favorites. So, I've taken this Metheny favorite of mine and mixed it with my favorite season. Enjoy!
