It's All About the Benjamins" is best known as the fourth single released from the Puff Daddy album No Way Out. The song is about living rich and the importance of having money. "Benjamins" are slang for $100 bills (USD), a reference to Benjamin Franklin's image on the bills. The song created a pop-culture phrase and influenced the title for the film All about the Benjamins. The song originated from a mixtape debuted by DJ Clue. This version of the song only featured Puff Daddy and the rap act The Lox (excluding Styles P). The song was later added to Puffy's debut album, No Way Out, in a remix, "It's All about the Benjamins (Remix)", which added two new verses by Lil Kim and the late Notorious BIG This version of the song also omitted the word "Hebrew" out of Jadakiss' verse. This single made it to No. 2 on the Billboard charts and its video won a "Viewer's Choice" award at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards show. The music video, which was helmed by German director Marcus Nispel features her and Puff riding up and down escaltors while rapping. New Jersey R&B trio Total made their first appearance singing the hook on The Notorious BIG's debut single, "Juicy". Garnering attention for the new group, they were also featured on the original version and "Hip Hop Remix" of his next single "One More Chance". They then immediately hit the studio with Bad Boy Records CEO Sean "Puffy" Combs and began work on their debut album. The first single "Can't You See?", had The Notorious BIG returning the favor with a guest rhyme, the single peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and entered the top ten of the R&B Charts. Their self-titled debut album was released shortly thereafter, they produced two more R&B top ten singles, "No One Else" (and its remix featuring Foxy Brown, Lil' Kim and Da Brat) and '"Kissing You" (and its remix featuring Sean "Puffy" Combs). The album was certified platinum by the RIAA.
