The Protomen - Unrest in the House of Light

No one would oppose Wily's rule except for Dr. Light, who worked in secret to create a robot who would fight back against Wily's robot soldiers. This robot, Protoman, stood up against the leaders of the robot army, but was destroyed. No one would help Protoman; all they could do was stand by and watch helplessly. Not too long after, Light created Megaman. "Years passed. Nothing changed. The human race seemed weary but content to suffer under Dr. Wily and the robot army. In whispers, they still spoke of Protoman. Eventually, Megaman would find out the truth. Dr. Light knew this. When Megaman was old enough, Light called him into the workshop and began to explain..." ******************** This is a music video for Unrest in the House of Light by The Protomen (who are AWESOME and happily provided me with full permission to disseminate this video). Its done entirely with Megaman 7 sprites (ripped by Sprites Inc.), which have been recolored, and a few original sprites by me. The Protomen - Keep Quiet
From the concept album by progressive metafictional band The Protomen, "Act II - The Father of Death" The red-eyed assassin stepped from the shadows. He'd been keeping pace with a motorcycle racing at top speed for an hour, yet he showed no sign of fatigue. The gray-haired man watched from the alley tensing visibly as the machine revealed itself. Joe slowly backed away from the bike, deliberately withdrawing towards the gray-haired man in the alley. He stopped as his foot brushed against something solid. The sniper robot's hand never once went for the gun at its side. It leaned in, a large blade clenched in its left fist, waiting for the proper moment. Joe's hands were shaking. Joe leaned forward and charged towards the machine. If he was going to die, he would go down swinging. He plunged his shoulder into the chest of the automaton. With every bit of strength he could summon, Joe thrust upward, and both man and machine left the ground in an arc. By the time they slammed back into the asphalt, the machine was on top, its cold hands tightening around Joe's neck. The impact sent the pipe bounding far from Joe's reach. Joe's fingers clawed at the smooth metal covering the machine, searching for a chink in its armor. His hand found the gun instead. The light of the blast was painful, even through Joe's closed eyes. He opened them slowly. Carefully. He found the machine lying several feet away, immobilized, with a smoking hole in its chest. Its red eye fading and flickering ...

But Megaman wasn't about to let Protoman go unavenged... ******************** This music video was made with the permission and full support of those rad dudes who call themselves Protomen. It's is the fourth song on their self-titled debut album, and immediately follows 'Unrest in the House of Light' (and you should check out my video for that, too, if you haven't yet!). Most of the artwork is based on Megaman7 sprites, which were painstakingly recolored, spliced, and/or completely drawn by me. So please don't write this off as 'just another sprite flash'! The Sons of Fate - The Protomen
This is the culmination of a rather tricky project I've been working on off and on for a long time only to be finished now. It follows the style of the "Vengeance" live action mega man movie posted awhile back here on Youtube by PaulLevering (youtube.com using Casshern footage in the place of Megaman characters. Of course, the nine minute long "The Sons of Fate" is a little more tricky to translate into Casshern footage than "Vengeance", but I think I did fairly well. "The Sons of Fate" is a rock opera telling the story of Megaman's quest to free the world from Dr. Wily's evil grip, only to discover the brother he had thought to be killed by Wily is actually working for him. As Protoman forces a confrontation, Megaman realizes the only way to stop Wily is by striking down his own brother first. Due to necessary footage, I also had to create a minor subplot where Roll is rescued from Wily's robots by a reformed Iceman, who is promptly killed for his actions. Note: I purposefully did not include subtitles for the Japanese dialogue between the characters towards the end. This is so people could interpret the events whatever way they wanted; after all, it's no so much important to know what possible comment of Wily's could goad Megaman into attacking him, it's the mere fact that the emotionally distraught robot would be willing to at all.

(Fake) Protoman movie trailer
Based on the rock opera interpretation of Megaman's predecessor by the band The Protomen. The music is a track called Hope Rides Alone. -- The Protomen is a rock/techno band which has made their fame with now two albums devoted to a reinterpretation of the classic video game story of Megaman. Whereas Capcom however had cute sprites and a colorful world, the story of Protoman is set in a dystopian future and treats the battle against the robot masters with sober seriousness. The story of the first album follows Protoman, a robot invented to deal with the oppressive regime of the maniacal Dr. Wily. His battle is a lonely one as the very people he strives to save ignore him as a troublemaker, and Dr. Light his creator struggles with the decision to activate him to save the world...but more then likely die in the attempt. This is exactly one day I hope to do with Sonic; show how by taking even an originally childish concept seriously you can tell truly dramatic and meaningful stories.
