A Sophisticated Marine Steam Engine Without Cranks: Part 2
As a complementary HD information to my first video about this engine here are some details for better understanding its way of working. Here a part of the original description: This is the authentic demonstration model, constructed in London about 1870 by Mr. George Shott (of Messrs. John Penn and Sons) with the assistance of his two sons George and William Nesbitt Shott to show the operation of his proposed cylindrical-cam form of marine engine. The model shows two cylinders 36 in. (91.4 cm) diam. by 18 in. (45.7 cm) stroke, rated collectively at 156 nominal hp, and each fitted with two piston rods and side rollers, to run in sine-shaped grooves cut in two cylindrical cams mounted on the screw shaft. Two similar but smaller cams serve to operate the steam admission and exhaust valves. The screw shaft passes through the center of the after (left) cylinder and piston, and is shown fitted with a four-bladed bronze screw propeller 7.5 ft.diam. (2.29 m). (end) Besides the problems with thrust and friction of the side rollers exists another drawback: There is no possibility for the exact timing of steam admission except at full steam, because the amplitude of the steam valves cannot be changed. For changing the direction, you have to twist the valve cam on its shaft. But you can not compare that with the efficiency of a classic valve gear, eg Stephenson's, the standard for ship's engines at that time.

3 Bladed Propeller mod for Nitroplanes BIG Air-Field T-28 Trojan
*Please Read* The Air-Field T-28 from Nitroplanes is my Favorite plane to fly, but has a few weak spots. Besides the weak hinge lines in the cold (which I reinforced with Duct tape) the prop hub is made from plastic and can easily be broken with the slightest nick on rough landings during gusty wind conditions. When I tried to order the hub, I found every source sold out, thus putting this sweet plane out of commission. To get it in the air again, I decided to try a Master Airscrew prop from Windsor Propeller company. I tried the 13 x 6 first, and it was not enough. But when I put the 13 x 8 prop on, it worked great. I was able to get it within 2 days and have my plane flying again. Thanks kindly for all your support. In this video we will look at LEGO set 7292, Propeller Adventure. This is a 3 in 1 set that makes either a jet fighter, a hovercraft boat, or a dual propeller airplane. As with all the 3 in 1 sets, you can only make one of these at a time. At first I bought this set because I wanted to use that jet fighter on my Banbao aircraft carrier, but after building all three of these items, I decided that the dual prop airplane was really the best of the three, so I'm including that one on my aircraft carrier. Propeller Test Citroën 2CV ultralight aircraft engine
This is my homebuilt 1970's Citroën 2CV car engine. I've stripped it down to the bare essentials, it now weighs about 36 kgs/80 pounds. The Propeller (48x17) was sent to me by the Sratt 103 designer Bernard Geffray, in order to test my engine before buying my own propeller. The highest rpm I could achieve was 2880 rpm. I need 3000 for the ultralight aircraft, so I should adjust ignition, exhaust and carbs. The engine develops more power at higher rpm (35 at 5750 rpm) but to save weight, I'm trying to use it direct drive. If necessary, I can design a reduction unit, but we'll see. For this test, I've fixed the engine on the back of my homemade gokart. This also allows to do dynamic tests. Engine data: -2 cyl. boxer -602cc -9:1 compression ratio -Electronic Ignition (DGNition) -Double Carburettors Mikuni BS34 Feel free to give advice!
Awesome RGB Propeller Clock
What can 2 ECE's, a MechE and a CS major do in only 5 days of hacking? Why would they pull two all-nighters in a row the first week of classes for fun? This is a project done for CMU's hack-a-thon session called Build18. The LED boards were previously designed by me but all other work was done in the week-long session. 96 RGB LED's driven by 12x TLC5947 LED drivers. 12-bit PWM resolution per color channel per LED. Diameter: 1.5 feet Full brightness: 6 amps of LED current Didn't have time to figure out how to transfer through motor, so it is battery powered by 2x 4AA NIMH cells which have the perfect discharge curve for what the LED drivers need. *Caution* My Hawk can easily fly around with only 1/4 throttle, even in the 25 mph gusting winds, with instant acceleration, less battery usage, and longer flight times, but I am not encouraging any of you to try this unless you are really sure of what your doing. The carbon rod is threaded into the prop hub and glued. To me or someone with experience, this is no more dangerous than my helicopters, rotory lawnmower, or Viet Nam! I have been intrigued by single bladed props since Frank Johnson introduced them to me back in the early '70s. Where are you Frank? So when Jeff broke his Hawk prop, I gave him my spare and decided to attempt the 1 blade experiment for my own Nitroplanes Hawk 3D. Again, I used a carbon fibre rod threaded into a hole I drilled in the hub, plus the Zap Ca. The carbon prop hub and rod become one after this attachment and are stronger that the original blade, weighing the same. So just for fun and another science experience, I am glad I did this and hope you enjoyed it too. Thanks for watching and subscribing. Propeller Aliasing
Many folks, who have tried taking a picture of a spinning airplane propeller with their cellphone cameras, have been surprised by the results. The pictures show images of ghostly propeller blades, floating in the air, totally detached from the airplane. Here is how this happens: When a slow scanning digital camera (like the ones on many cellphone) captures an image, it does not expose all the pixels at the same time. Rather, it exposes and captures one row of the sensor at a time and then moves on to the next row. This simulated video demonstrates, in slow motion, how this results in images of floating detached propeller blades.

I wanted to comment on the video since a lot of people have been interested in it. the crowd was a bit tame for a few reasons: a) most people don't know who they are over in the states (a shame, i know) b) a lot of the crowd were tool fans and were uninterested in much of what was played other than the headliner. c) the conditions of the show were $h!T (foot deep of mud from lots of rain) which people weren't prepared for d) Their set time was much earlier in the day than it should have been which = less crowd (there were 3 other stages) Just my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth. I was rocking out and I love this song/album and their new sound. Check out my Highline Ballroom videos from 2 nights later if you want to see a more energetic crowd.

I am currently working on a mini i86 DOS machine. An old modified PC-XT board serve as a test platform for the homemade BIOS. All IO's -- keyboard, VGA Display, floppy disk, RS232 will be handle by a propeller chip board. To date, INT10 (video) and INT 16 (keyboard) are working. Currently working on INT13 (disk). An image disk of DOS 3.1 will be on a SD flash drive connected to the propeller chip.
